I had used a D-Lock, and put it throught the front wheel. Today I found nothing but the front wheel on the rack, and the quick release pin on the ground.
This sucks. Really sucks.

Especially if your bike is your primary mode of transportation.
Someone couldn't steal my bike last week (the chain and lock I use weigh about 10 pounds and I lock up thru the frame), so they slashed the tires.
Assholes.

Never attach your lock to a quick release wheel:shrug:
Be happy it wasn't me in my younger days, all I would have left you would have been a broken lock:evilgrin: One little trick to pop those locks is to take a can of freon and shoot it directly onto one part of the lock. Freeze it down good, use the whole can. Then hit the lock hard with the blade end of a welding hammer, and voila, one liberated lock.
There are absolutely no one hundred percent secure locks. All you can do is to make it tough enough, and take enough time, to discourage all but the most diligent of thieves. A D lock is actually a great start, but like I said earlier, attach it to a part of the bike that isn't quick release. In fact next time, remove the quick release wheel and lock it and the bike all together. There is a market for quick release wheels(as you can see why), and thus you will prevent theft of the wheel.
Sorry that happened, good luck in the future.

Use one to lock the rear wheel and frame. Then a second to lock the front wheel to the frame. Plus, more than one is intimidating. The tea leaves will move on to easier pickings.
I had a bike stolen years ago. Boy, that hurts. Especially since it was under a security camera. The security eejits gave me all sorts of excuses - no video, camera not working etc. Turns out a mess of them were caught stealing and fired all in one weekend.

My parent's homowner's insurance will cover about 79 bucks, ($200 deductible) if I can find the reciept.

i had bought a very expensive ten speed and used it to ride to work and school...i loved that bike...i was on my high school cycling team...it was a volkcycle mark IV...a purplish bronze color with white tape on the handle bars...very light...very fast...i had a 3 foot length of 1 inch chain and a padlock...one day i came out of the mall and the chain was on the ground snapped in two peices...the lock still clasped to one end...the bike never to be seen again...in that one moment i knew what evil lurked in the hearts of men...
