Just saw a bumper sticker. "Dont Worry. God's in Control. Let him Work". |
|
I almost followed this truck home to ask him if God has a hand in the killing and illegal war in Iraq. If God is OK with the Genocide in Dafur, where hundreds of thousands of people, MOSTLY CHILDREN, ARE BEING SLAUGHTERED? Is God in control of corporate greed that is driving gas prices so high that everything you need and buy will be unaffordable? And do you think that God is giving the thumbs up to the possibility of the US NUKING Iran for Oil interests? What kind of a God is this? What kind of a head in the sand attitude is this?
OK, I feel better now. Excuse my mania.

1. Yeah, I'm not gonna pay my taxes next year. |
|
I'll let God take care of it.

4. Why blame God for people's fuck ups? |
|
This is one of the fundamental problems/questions of religion: If there is a God, why does God let bad things happen?
For some, that's enough proof there is no God, which is cool.
I think the feeling of the guy/girl whose car you saw would probably feel that God is infinite in his/her wisdom and works in mysterious ways, all that. You do the best you can, but you can't do everything and in the end fate (or God) is in control. That can be a tremendous comfort to religious people.
Of course, that thinking can be kind of lazy, though, because it implies that people have no responsibility toward making things better, a head in the sand sort of thing as you said.
