When did they stop making Matchbox-style cars with opening doors? |
|
My young son would love one like that, but I can't find them anywhere, at least not in 1/72 scale like all his other cars. When I was small I owned one with opening doors, hood, and trunk.
All I see on the shelves are Johnny Lightnings, and only the hoods open. And they cost more than a mortgage payment.

1. After about the 30th time I stepped on one with its doors open. |

In my bare feet and at 2 a.m.
I suspect the resultant shriek (not to mention the rather *ahem* indelicate language) caused them to rethink the design.
Actually, I'm not sure when they stopped...haven't seen or bought one in years, although I think there are probably still a few floating around here somewhere that managed to escape my wrath.

Godzilla stops on tanks and howitzers, and you don't hear him complaining.

2. Probably stopped cause they're more expensive |
|
CAn I hear another "Thanks Market Research!"
Probably discovered that the cost inrease of making the cars with doors didn't translate into higher sales, so they just scrapped em.

I may have to dig through my mom's attic to see if my old cars are still there.
