They're terrific!

She found this self-striping yarn, so the stripes are automatic as you knit. They're 75% wool and 25% nylon and I'm told they will wash beautifully.

I love them.

1. That reminds me of a funny sock story
(believe it or not)

Way back in the 70's, my friend and I were working at a book bindery. We were about 18, dumb, partying, fools with no money and no car and we were hitchhiking to work until we found out one guy who worked there drove past our house every night on his way in - he offered to pick us up for work. Nice guy, probably in his 40's or 50's, had a family.

Anyway, it was December, freezing cold (Vermont), we were perpetually without the things we needed (like warm socks) and one night we had the brilliant idea of going to work on acid. Sure, in a book bindery, lots of large, dangerous machines and stuff - why not?

So we did.

I was completely blasted, working on the line boxing books, when my supervisor called me into the office. Oh, crap, I thought - she knows I'm all messed up. I went in, my eyes rolling about in my head, feeling like a deer in the headlights and she hands me.... (drumroll please)

A bag of socks.

Yes, our lovely kind man had noticed we had no socks and had scrounged some from his wife and daughters so our little stupid teenage feet wouldn't get so cold.

Somehow I managed to mumble something appropriate and get the heck out of there. It was a sweet thing for him to do and I always appreciated it. But for the kindness of strangers....

 Thanks for the reminder. Enjoy your nice new socks. :hi:
