Anyone here have multiple personalities that you're totally aware of? |
|
I notice I can be about 10 different personalities within one day depending on who I deal with or what the situation is. Sometimes, I don't have a choice about who I'm slipping into, but I'm still totally aware of each one.
And, sometimes I can be right in the middle of one personality, take a phone cal and switch into another one, hang up and go right back to the one I was in before the call.
I do that all day, every day. No wonder I'm exhausted all the time. Taking care of all these nutcases within.

3. Yes and it really bothers me |
|
My husband says that it is normal for him and I shouldn't worry about it. I do worry about it though especially since some of the time it doesn't feel like me, although I do remember most if not all of it. I haven't specifically identified separate different personalities, but it seems like that I am not all of them at a time. I would like to become more integrated because I have become somewhat contradictory and feel like I don't have all of my strangths all at once. For example, it seems that lately I can only be confident and competent when I am not feeling emotion or being creative.

Dude, I hate that. Certain people can trigger me into a wuss. Just knowing they're in the same room can prevent me from making a decision.

5. Are you sure you're talking about personalities |
|
and not just moods?
If one of you refers to any of the others as if they were different people, you may want to consult a psychiatrist.

7. No, it's difinetly not moods. |
|
I know my moods...I can be in a great mood, but slip into several personalities within 5 minutes depending on the situation. My mood stays the same throughout.

11. Sometimes they're the only way I can deal with others. |
|
I can be more social through one, can get more work done with another. I don't know if I could handle as many as you do though, wow. I understand how it can be draining, mentally & physically, as well.

But seriously though, yeah... there is one person from my past whose presence can still make me morph into a spineless git with no opinions on anything and no personality whatsoever. On the other hand, I once told opposing counsel (who was being a complete asshole) to "bite me." The court reporter looked directly at me with wide eyes and I could just tell she was trying to decide whether or not to put it on the record (given that it was right at the very end of the hearing). And then I kind of thought, "Oh shit." But then I thought, "Screw it, he had it coming. I'm glad I did it and I'd do it again."

14. Do you mean multiple as in separate people living in the same body? |
|
Or do you mean that you alter your personality purposefully...as you would if you were hanging with your buddies one minute, then had to go visit your aunt who is a nun?
I notice my alterations tend to be applied toward relating to people in an effort to make them feel as comfortable as possible with me. Sometimes I'll speak more clearly than usual when talking with someone who may be non-English speaking or hard of hearing. At other times, I'll become lazy with my diction, in order to relate to those who might find my speech "snobbish"-sounding.
There are also occasions where I need to cultivate a "personality" that some might describe as "rude", or others might think "assertive"...take your pick. ;-)

18. It IS exhausting to do that all day... |
|
At one time I was teaching about 45 students a week. Each one had their own unique quirks that needed to be addressed in order to connect with them. For this one it was the shy little kid voice, and for that one the jokester. The cocky teen needed someone just as haughty to inspire him to practice.
I don't know how classroom teachers manage to maintain their sanity.
