Akeelah and the Bee (family movie)-anyone going to see it?
Edited on Wed Apr-26-06 09:01 AM by xmas74
It's getting some really good reviews and is supposed to be a great family movie. I'm thinking it might be the perfect movie to take my daughter to.

Anyone else thinking of taking their kids to this movie?

And if you are interested, there are some good word games on the site for the preteen crowd. You won't feel bad about them spending time to play them-good vocabulary builders.

2. Kick again.
They're talking about it on Good Morning America right now. Everyone's who talked about the movie has given it rave reviews.

BTW-it's about a girl from LA who wants to qualify for the Scripps Natl. Spelling Bee.

3. The trailers make me think it would be an interesting film.
My kids are too old to want to see it though.

5. I have to say I'm a sucker for stories like that.
The person who overcomes obstacles and works hard to get what they want because they believe in themselves. I like movies like that. I know it can sound corny but that motivates me.

6. Did you see who's in the movie?
Lawrence Fishburn and Angela Bassett. Quality acting in a family movie doesn't happen very often!

7. Yes I did!
That alone will make it worth a viewing. I think your daughter should see it.

8. I think it's a gameplan.
That is, if it ever makes it to our local theatre.

9. Hey xmas!!! We totally intend to see it.
My daughter participated in the Bee in 2002. It was probably the best family vacation we took. She made some great friends and Scripps really does it up with options for tours etc. The movie looks very true to what my daughter experienced. I can't wait to see it.

If your daughter is interested in spelling, I suggest you visit the national Bee site and have her click on Carolyn's Corner. The woman who writes the articles and suggestions each week is the mother of a former Bee contestant, and my daughter learned a lot there. :)

14. I want to see it.
It looks like one of the few movies out right now that isn't total crap.

Maybe if it's still playing when the semester ends...
