It's a fucking TV show people. So the kids are no-talented, karaoke singin', fluffy bullshit hacks. Then don't watch it.

What is up with people trying to put down what other people like as entertainment? I'm not necessarily sticking up for American Idol here, but all entertainment. I can understand sport team rivalry or some other friendly competition, but what is the reason for telling people that the TV shows they watch, music they listen to, singers and bands they like, actors they like, movies they watch or authors they read suck?

My personal opinion is, you don't look as smart as you think you look when you try to make someone look dumb for liking an entertainer that you find not up to your personal standards of entertainment. Chances are... your own favorites suck.

Just thought I would say this. :)

9. It's less scary in English...
'In matters of taste there can be no argument.' (Or in the modern rendition, 'there's no accounting for taste')

4. I watch it even though there is nothing to the show
I knew it was a big hit and everything but this Quaid/Grant movie made me realize how big this really is. This is about as close as we are going to get to the freakin' "Truman show" everything stops (relatively) when that comes on.

But there is nothing to the show-Simon tells kids who have grown up with "It's all good" that they suck and we watch and laugh ....they have a competition (with a horribly bad backing band) and we watch.....we get to know them and we choose sides....there is nothing to the production there is almost no cost to make the show and the host is 1 IQ point away from being a lounge chair at the Beverly Hilton.

There is nothing there but we still watch.

5. Right
But why care if people watch it or anything else?

In my 42 years on this planet, I have seen my share of things I thought weren't worth watching, so I didn't.

8. Me too
but then I LOVE the TV always have. I don't know if that really makes me able to judge but I do!

Aside from the drag that reality shows are ( a few were okay but the cheap networks do nothing but now) this one is just remarkable.

Anyway I don't degrade people in general and certainly not for what or how they choose to spend their time*.

*-there was a thread about Annie Lennox doing a cover of "Whiter Shade of Pale" now if I DID rag on such things that would have been one to post an opinion on...but I didn't.

7. You're right...it's just a television show.
I just don't pay any attention to it.

10. That's how I am
If it is something I don't pay attention to, I don't really tell people that they shouldn't pay attention to it either. If it is a singer that isn't my bag, I don't think other people shouldn't like that particular singer. I don't really find it important to try to justify my tastes by putting other people's tastes down when it comes to entertainment.

12. It's the lounge. People talk about what they like and don't like
all the time.

14. Liking and disliking are one thing
Insinuating that people who watch certain TV shows are not very intelligent is another thing.

13. Some people don't control the remote! Perhaps they do the bashing.
If I don't want to watch something, I switch the channel. Or turn off the TV & open a book.

But I do control the remote. Except for the times one of the cats steps on it & turns off the TV. That's usually a hint that I need to get off the couch & put out fresher food, or clean the box.
