Anybody heard of the new band Arctic Monkeys?? |
|
GOD DAMN, they are a BREATH OF FRESH AIR!!! They are JUST what I need in this current scene of bands like Nickelback, Shinedown, and all the other crappy nu-metal poseurs!!! And the best part is that they have rose up from the very bottom. They've been getting airtime on MTVU recently, and just now have gone over to MTV2, and last night I saw their video on regular MTV, which was FREAKY!! Only 4 years ago, this band did not know how to play ANY instruments. The two lead guys got their first guitars for Christmas four years ago!! They are EXACTLY what I need right now!! They are like an ice-cold liter of water in the choking desert of corporate butt-rock!!
DAMN, it's good to hear stuff like that!! I have a friend who's got a DJ gig at the local college radio station. I'm gonna try to get him to play some of their stuff on his show.

1. And they got a huge following |
|
without releasing a single record. All built up through internet contact and downloads. http://arts.guardian.co.uk/comment/story/0,,1704890,00.html

2. I bought their CD when it first came out... |
|
without having heard it.
It didn't "wow" me. It had its moments, but my main reaction was that it isn't anything I haven't already heard.
My plan is to burn it, and sell the original to Cheapo Records along with a few other CDs I never listen to. Hopefully, they will finally have a copy of "Pinhead Cranberry Dance" by Thee Michelle Gun Elephant and I'll come out even.
HOWEVER, you are right in saying how much better they are than Nickelback and "all the other crappy nu-metal poseurs." I wouldn't even put them in the category (crapagory?).

I tried to buy the CD at Cheapo a few weeks ago and the clerk said he had been trying to order it, without success. Here is a site with samples: http://www.last.fm/music/THEE+MICHELLE+GUN+ELEPHANT

6. You might as well check out |
|
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah if Arctic Moneys floats your boat. As inde insta-phenom bands go, they ain't half bad, either. The new Aloha album is a winner, too.

My dad's really in to British music so I get most of my new music ears from him. They're great.
