Y'know, if we're gonna pay homage to an athlete |

it oughta be Julio Franco. The dude's 47 years old, in his 22nd major league season, and he stole a base against the Giants today. Fucking incredible. http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/team/player.jsp?player_id=212297

There were rumors about Satchel Paige's age, but it's been firnly established that he was born in 1906, and was therefore about 47 when his big-league career ended, except for a couple of stunts...Jack Quinn and Hoyt Wilhelm were 49, but they were pitchers, and that's not quite the same thing...so yes: Julio is the man...:-)... But don't forget Gordie Howe, who played in the NHL when he was well past 50--that may be the most impressive "old guy" feat of all...
