Karma is, indeed, a bitch.
It's true. I've found proof:

"This is my dog Karma. She is a 1 year old black lab mix. She was rescued from a shelter and is a great dog. She loves everyone and everything. Her favorite thing to do is run loose with all her doggie friends then go for a swim in the lake at the off leash dog park."

Labs and lab mixes are great dogs. They are so smart and loving.

You have a winner there.

3. She's not mine.
I was just out googling for a cheap 'n' easy visual pun.

However, my lab Bailey is also smart and loving. :)

4. Where is your photo of Bailey?
I love labs.

I don't have one, my living situation does not allow for a large, active dog like a lab.

I have a friend that has a lab mix that I adore.

It was a very good visual. :D

5. Sorry for the big pic, but here he is.
The best thing we ever got from the SPCA, sitting up in the middle, along with his buddies--a pug and another lab.

Can you tell the prospect of food is on their minds? :)

8. A Yellow Lab!
He is gorgeous!

Who are his buddies? Is that squatty little black dog a pug?

They are all great looking dogs. :toast:

9. Thanks!
The pug's his "brother", and the other Lab's his "cousin".

(All nourished with raw meat and veggies, I might add.)

10. I need to start doing that - the vets have put my jack russell
on some thyroid meds and I know if I change her diet, she will be better off in the long run.

Is there a site you can suggest?

Oh, and the photos of my babies are in this thread.

11. They're all adorable.
Although I'm most partial to your pug!

As far as information on the web, I would just Google raw dog food or whatever, and make your own judgments.

Here's one link I found from the CBC website, which I'd imagine is pretty unbiased: http://www.cbc.ca/consumers/market/files/health/rawdogfood/index.html

I can only say that in my experience, feeding raw meat, bone and veggies has been nothing but good for our dogs, as well as our friends and families' dogs. (Nearly everyone we know feeds their dogs raw.) Their fur doesn't smell, they seem more healthy overall, their teeth are cleaner (saved Bailey from having to get his teeth cleaned for $300, but at the same time we don't feed the pug bones, because we're not confident enough that his throat can handle them.)

I would also try to find a vet that understands and supports the decision to feed raw. Unfortunately, that may be difficult because vets aren't taught about nutrition except by dog food manufacturers (!), and you may have noticed that many vets sell such manufactured product in their offices as opposed to raw. There's no incentive for them to promote what is more like what they'd've found in the wild. And genetically, dogs are identical to wolves, so no worries about whether their systems can handle it.

Sorry for the disjointed ramble, but I hope that gets you started. I don't have any hard figures to give you, but the dogs I know that are fed raw comes to a combined total of nearly 30 years, with absolutely no regrets from any of their owners. I also have a friend who owns a store specializing in raw animal diets, and his business has been doing very well over its two years in business--again, no regrets from any of his customers.

Good luck!
