Lost question ***spoilers likely in responses***

Did they just abandon the whole storyline about the monster and the polar bears? I've watched sparsely through season 2 and caught up last night with the "reckoning" episode, but in what I have seen, they haven't even been remotely mentioned. What's goin on?


Oh, and some idle speculation - I think Michael's full of shit when he says the others aren't armed. I think he's just desperate and can't do it alone (not that I blame him, but ya know...)

1. It sure seems that way.

This show has lots of "exciting story lines" that lead nowhere. It's frustrating as hell. :grr: I think we're gonna find out that the "monster" is just a security device. The polar bear is supposedly from a circus cargo plane that went down on the island, as is the horse. (Saw those on the Lost message board on the ABC website.) It's really funny that the animals haven't shown back up again, especially since the island isn't huge.

Michael's probably been drugged and/or brainwashed by the Others. That'll probably lead nowhere, too, unfortunately. :(

I have no idea about what happened to that part. The writers/creators supposedly have the whole story line worked out or at least know where this is going but then we hear that they are going to kill off the cop as soon as possible because she is just too much of a pain in that arse on the set.

I don't know.

I do think that the polar bear has something to do with the magnetism that is the basis for the whole thing. Magnets man magnets.

8. These topics sort of came up a couple of episodes back

When Locke found the black light map inside of the hatch during the lockdown, the map made mention of the fact that polar bears (Ursus maritimus) were on the island as part of some sort of "reterrestrialization" project. (I believe that's the word that was used.)

Likewise, the map also makes repeated reference to the Cerberus System on the island. I assume that this is probably the monster/security system. However, we have not actually seen the smoke/monster/security thing for several episodes now. (Not since it stared down Mr. Eko.)

One of the interesting things about Season 2 is that while Season 1 covered approximately 45 days or so of "Island time", Season 2 has so far only shown about 12 days of Island time all together. While a plotline may seem to have been dropped as far as the audience is concerned, it's only been about 4 or 5 days or so since the monster's been seen on the island.

Also, FWIW, I think Michael's full of shit too and that anybody who believes him is a fool. The one absolute thing we know about Michael (and he has directly stated this) is that he will do ANYTHING to get Walt back. And, considering the manner in which he left before -- knocking out Locke and locking Jack in the armory with him -- I wouldn't trust him anyway, Walt or not.

9. Eko saw the "monster" in his episode this season.

The polar bears were mentioned a couple times. They also popped up symbolically, notably in the Driveshaft video (charlie's band).
