If you have gray hair, when did you first notice it?
I noticed a few after I had my daughter, when I was 23. It seemed odd to me, as neither of my parents had any grays until their forties. I think it was the result of bad karma for my pretending that my friend (whose Mom was totally gray by her thirties)was sprouting gray hairs. I don't have a ton of them, but the ones I do I have are wiry and metallic silver. I dye my hair anyway, so I don't see them until my roots grow out, but I know they're there!

1. I was 26 when they started coming in.
So I dyed it. Then when it started to grow in, my hair was black (the dye), brown and grey. I looked a total mess and realized that I'd have to keep touching up forever, so I shaved my head bald and started over, and I've just flown the grey flag ever since. So far it's only at the temples, which I actually kind of like.

2. I started noticing a few grays when I was 19.
I;m in my thirties and I have a few more, but I really don't mind. My Mom is turning 70 and she was many grays, but she looks amazing so I hope to look like her when I'm her age. :-)

My Mom's 55, and has most of her natural color still, but she likes her grays, too.

51. I was 19.
My family goes gray early and fast. I'm now 44 and am almost entirely gray... but you'd never know it. ;)
A big thanks goes to my stylist for helping me look like a stunning redhead!!! I'm thinking about going natural when I turn 50. I'd like to see what I'd look like with all gray hair. From what I can see of my gray roots it's a nice silvery gray so it may look pretty good. I don't want to be a slave to haircolor all my life.

4. I was in my mid-late thirties
when I first started to find a strand or two. They multiply like li'l rabbits, too. Since my hair's kinda light anyway, it wouldn't be so bad if the gray were the same texture but is it?

Nooooooooooooo.

My dad is gonna be 70 in September and I think I've already got more gray than he does.

Life just ain't fair.

7. I had a streak of white show up on the back of my head
when I was 26. It goes all the way down-from the top of my skull and is about 1 1/2 inches in length.

After that I noticed greys starting to sneak in. Actually, mine are not grey. Every one of them has been almost pure white.

22. Nobody really gets "gray" hairs....
They are white. Combined with dark hair, the overall result is gray. Combined with light brown hair (like mine), the overall effect is dull beigish...

Folks on my father's side of the family are born with black hair that turns white fairly early. I took after my mother's side, in that I was born bald & grew blond hair that turned into light brown. But my father's genes showed up when the white hairs arrived. (My mother's hair was mostly brown when she died--in her 70's.)

Can't remember when I started using henna.

My mom and dad didn't start turning gray until their mid-late 40's. My siblings in their 40's still haven't turned gray. I must have had some gray karma back then. I had just gone through phd comprehensive exams, which were horrible, maybe that was it.

up front at my hairline. I freaked.

I'm closing in on 40 in July. I have an interesting Cruella de Ville streak that shows up in my bangs, in addition to the ones that have begun migrating and reproducing. RAPIDLY.

reprehensor says he thinks it looks cool. But of course, he has that suave Richardo Montalban thing going. It's not fair.

Do I have gray?! Omigod.....

I noticed my first WHITE hair at around age 20! I pulled it out.....to no avail.....

I did briefly consider dying my hair.....but I realized early on that this would be something I would NEVER keep up......

I was always a dishwater blonde before.....I really love my hair color now!

It is the prettiest it has ever been, IMHO......

26. First one at 22
I was sitting in my car waiting for my brother to come out of a store. My hair was windblown, and I was trying to fix it in the car mirror. I then noticed a big, wiry gray hair sticking straight up. :yoiks: Of course, I had to pull it. A few months later, I noticed a few more, then it's been downhill ever since. I'm currently about 65% gray, but it's patchy. If I didn't color it, I'd have Bride of Frankenstein stripes on either side of my head. I'm not ready for gray hair yet! When and if I am, then I'll let it go naturally gray.

My mom went prematurely gray (totally gray at 30 and colored it until about age 50 or so), so I guess I lucked out and inherited her grayness. My dad is 75 and only has a small amount of gray at his temples.

I think I first noticed a white hair in my senior year in high school. I got a few more in college, and a few more in my 20s. However, two marriages and fatherhood have led to exponential white hair growth.

I blame it on having 3 kids in 5 years..which meant dealing with 3 teenagers in the same household for a while..that and my sister and Mom getting sick and passing away during that time. The streaks that framed my face stayed that way for a while until about 2 years ago. Now there's a lot of gray on the top and sides..just not on the back. How weird is that? I'm 50 looking like I'm much older so I dyed it just last week.

edited to delete extra word.
