Liz Taylor reported close to death
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/showbiz/showbiznews.html?in_article_id=384414&in_page_id=1773

As you all know, aside from being a Hollywood icon, Liz Taylor has tirelessy raised money for AIDS research and charities.

Liz Taylor is facing death after her heart began to fail, it has been reported.
The Oscar-winner, 74, is confined to her bedroom and has apparently planned her funeral.

<snip>

"Liz is inching closer to death every day and she knows it. It is not a pretty picture," a friend said.
"She's not leaving a lot of money to her children. She wants the bulk of her fortune to go to AIDS research."

This from The Elizabeth Taylor Aids Foundation: http://www.elizabethtayloraidsfoundation.org/ :

Welcome to the Official Web site of The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (ETAF). ETAF, a 501(c) (3) organization, was founded in 1991 by Elizabeth Taylor for the express purpose of raising funds for distribution to AIDS service organizations around the world. The Foundation's main focus is to provide funding to organizations providing critically needed support services for people with HIV/AIDS, prevention services and education for populations most in need.

Since its formation, ETAF has distributed more than $8 million to AIDS organizations around the world. Ms. Taylor is actively involved in all aspects of the Foundation and has worked tirelessly for more than a decade to raise funds and awareness for HIV and AIDS.

3. she got a little eccentric
but she HAS done a world of good for AIDS research. I met her at a benefit years ago and she was tireless. This was before everyone at every awards show sported a little red ribbon too. The woman is a gift from above for those with HIV/AIDS

2. Oh, my...that's awful news.
She's had health problems for many years. And yet, she's endured.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Elizabeth Taylor has, indeed, been tireless in AIDS activism and awareness. She's helped a great deal.

I've admired her as an advocate for AIDS awareness and research as well as an actress.

27. She was definitely involved in AIDS awareness after Rock Hudson died.
It sounds like the deaths of a couple of very dear people close to her was the catalyst for her tireless work.

4. Heart failure today isn't quite the death sentence it used to be. Its
possible to rehab yourself out of it if you enroll in a good hospital's CHF program and follow their instructions to a "T." My brother did it and was actually released from the program after a few years. He thanked the nurse in charge very much but she told him, "Pat, you did it yourself" as he kept on a very strict regime of diet and exercise. He has tremendous self discipline.

7. At a certain point, it is
One thing in life we can absolutely count on: death.

At the point that it is appearant our own time is approaching fast, may we all have such grace to accept and go comfortably. It can be a help to those we are leaving behind

6. Taylor has been through so much in her life.
She's had a lot of sickness and illness.

She is a beautiful person inside as well as out. She has done so many good things for others, and so many of her movies have made important points about society.

She is one of the all-time great actresses, and one of the most beautiful women of her lifetime. I'm sure her close friends and loved ones who preceded her will be waiting to greet her.

Bless her heart!

9. Taylor showed great courage.....
when she spoke out about AIDS long before other famous people dared to be publicly associated with the disease. I understand she has spent a lifetime not giving a damn what anyone thought about her, and she put that quality to great use these last twenty years.

39. When Warner was elected, someone said, "They've just elected
the three biggest boobs in Washington."
Considering the tone of this thread, that's disrepectful. So let me say that I've seen a lot of her movies and in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" she is all actor. In "Suddenly Last Summer" she is all woman (and I don't care if that is disrespectful).

18. Oh Elizabeth Cared What People Thought
Edited on Thu Apr-27-06 11:47 AM by LeFleur1
Back in the day Elizabeth cared what people thought. That's why she was married so many times. She once said that when she was younger women married the men they had affairs with.
She supported her mother and father monetarily until they died. I don't know if either of them ever had a job. Her first movie was Lassie Come Home, I think. She was a child. She was under contract to the studio, (MGM?) going to school there. Her whole life revolved around the movie industry. Her schoolmates at times were Mickie Rooney and Judy Garland, to name two. I think the lack of a normal childhood is the common ground between her and Micheal Jackson.
Her first marriage was to Nicky Hilton (Hilton Hotels) at age 18. He gambled most of their wedding night, then beat her on their honeymoon. They weren't married much more than a year.

Micheal Wilding probably seemed a safe bet after Hilton. Older, steady, stable. In those days, successful women got married.

I swear she married Eddie Fisher because she had a weak moment and had sex with him. He was 'comforting' her after the death of one of the two husbands she truly loved. (Mike Todd) It was a big scandal. Debbie Reynolds was seen as the cute, little wronged wife (she was), and Elizabeth, so very beautiful, was seen as the vulture who broke up the marriage. (I guess Eddie was always seen as pathetic). Then sparks ignited when she and Richard Burton met on the set of Cleopatra. Pathetic Eddie sat on the sidelines and watched the passion kindle. That didn't do too much for Liz's reputation back in the day, either.
From Burton on it was all downhill in her choice of men.

I have really good memories of Elizabeth Taylor's time on earth, and respect the work she has done in the field of HIV/AIDS. She stepped forward when it wasn't a popular cause. She and Rock Hudson were good friends. I hope she stays with us a bit longer.
She has three or four children. Maybe two boys, two girls...one adopted.?

25. Her publicist says that's a rumor
Edited on Sat Apr-29-06 02:24 AM by Nicole
Los Angeles, April 27, 2006 -
Quoting "inside sources," national and international tabloid newspapers have gone with the story that Elizabeth Taylor is near death. That information has now been picked up and re-worded by various publications mostly on-line sites.
According to her publicist Elizabeth Taylor is not near death.

Dick Guttman says that he can refute every allegation in these published reports. In fact, he says they didn't get anything right.

Guttman says Taylor has a very busy life, with her successful perfume and jewelry lines and the work she does for AIDS.

The published reports have gone, as far as, to say Taylor is already planning her own funeral and she wants to be laid to rest next to her ex-husband, Richard Burton. Guttman says those are also lies.

edit to add: I hope the publicist's story is the right one.

26. Talk about exceeding all expectations and living a dazzlingly
full life.

Not to mention her many roles, not least as Martha in WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF. About as good as it gets.

And on top of all the accomplishment, she was generous with her time, energies, and money.

Hat's off at my house for Ms. Taylor.

Didn't they also report that Camilla Parker Bowles was suffering from lung cancer at one time? She is still around. Liz has been ailing all her life. She will probably live well into her eighties, I'd guess.

36. Her publicist denies all these stories
Taylor publicist denies star near death

April 29, 2006

A PUBLICIST for screen legend Elizabeth Taylor has denied tabloid reports that the actress is near death and planning her own funeral.

Media reports have been rife suggesting 74-year-old Taylor was bedridden at her Bel Air, California, mansion with a heart condition.

"Liz is inching closer to death every day and she knows it," a friend was quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.

"She's not leaving a lot of money to her children. She wants the bulk of her fortune to go to AIDS research."

But Taylor's publicist Dick Guttman denied the reports, saying the star had a very busy life with her successful perfume and jewellery lines and AIDS/HIV work.

"It is regrettable that a recent story in a tabloid gossip paper so erroneously reported the state of the health of Dame Elizabeth Taylor and created so much needless concern," he said in a statement.

"We would suggest that judicious scepticism is in order when the public and other media read such dire health reports or other misinformation in a story which is substantiated only by quotes from vague sources described as 'close friends.'

"We don't know of any close friends who would shop a celebrated pal to a supermarket paper."

Taylor's business partner Kathy Ireland said her family visited Taylor at Easter and she recently dined with her in Beverly Hills.

"This story is cruel, nonsensical and damaging to the tremendous work she does every day for people living with HIV/AIDS as well as her extraordinary leadership in all of her business ventures," Ireland said in a statement.

Taylor has congestive heart failure, a terminal condition in which the heart weakens, pumping ever-decreasing amounts of blood through the body.

She has been virtually confined to a wheelchair since 2004 with chronic back problems.

The two-time Oscar winner had reportedly been planning her funeral in which she would be buried next to former husband Richard Burton in Switzerland.
