It's going to be a Darvocet/Keflex weekend with a root canal on Monday.
Bummer. Before I start the Darvocet, I am taking Dr. D. to a nice restaurant for our 32nd wedding anniversary. I'm hoping Advil will get me through the evening (until I can pop a Darvocet at bedtime). I dread the root canal, but what the hell. It has to be done. Nothing could be worse than the botched double wisdom tooth extraction I experienced in Viet Nam.

1. are you going to dinner the same day as the root canal?

5. Oh, no! Dinner was tonight. The root canal is Monday.
I am taking a Darvocet in a few minutes to try to get through tonight pain-free. Monday was the earliest dentist could schedule the root canal.

2. Don't sweat the root canal

I had one done on Tuesday, and the bad tooth was under a bridge, so my dentist had to drill through the bridge and hope he "landed" on top of the root. He did!!

Right now, my tooth is very sore to the touch, and I can't eat too well on that side, but my dentist told me that that this was to be expected due to the large amount of work that had to be done. I am on anti-biotics, but I haven't had to take anything stronger than Advil for pain (and that only once). He told me I'd be sore for about a week, but it would get better with each passing day. So far, he's right.

You'll do fine, but then again our 31st anniversary isn't until August, so we can eat in. :)

3. It's ALL OK, Mac!!!
Just keep your mouth clean, heal quick and let's think about Telemann duets in cybespace with your sparkly new Loree! LOOK WHAT I GOT! (the one on the left with the masochist's octave key :P )

4. I've had four root canals (or maybe five; I can't remember)...
and it really is not as bad as some of the stories you hear.

Are you taking medication now over the weekend because of tooth pain?

7. I am told this guy is great.
The pain finally got out in front of the Advil. He Rx'd a Darvocet every 5 hours, but I think one at bedtime will carry me through the next day (I am extremely sensitive to pain pills).

8. If the pain in your tooth is that horrible...
(and believe me, I sympathize!), then the root canal will be nothing. You'll feel such relief when it's done with and the source of the pain is gone.

I usually experience some discomfort for a day or two after a root canal (most of my root canals were not preceded by toothaches), but I doubt any discomfort you may have would compare to what you're feeling already. I wish they could get you in sooner than Monday.

9. I had a root canal recently. Don't worry.
The toothache I had before the root canal was much, much worse than the procedure or the recovery. I wouldn't call a root canal fun, but with lots of novocaine, it really wasn't too bad.

11. You need a new dentist
My root canal was worthy of Percodan.

12. Yeah, Darvocet is like Excedrin...it is nothing
You need Percodan or Hydrocodone for that...but only briefly.

May your recovery be quick.
