O'Donnell to replace Vieira on 'The View'

By DAVID BAUDER
AP Television Writer

NEW YORK (AP) -- Rosie O'Donnell is expected to make a surprise return to daytime television by taking over exiting Meredith Vieira's slot on the talk show "The View."

O'Donnell's appointment was reported Thursday by the newsmagazine "Extra." It was confirmed by a person close to the show who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because "The View" wanted to make the announcement on Friday's show.

ABC officials declined comment on the report on Thursday.

Dubbed "The Queen of Nice" when her syndicated talk show went on the air in 1996 and became an instant hit, O'Donnell won six Daytime Emmy Awards in six years as best talk-show host. She left the show to help raise four children with her partner, Kelli Carpenter O'Donnell.

19. Same here but it was Vieira that I couldn't stand the most.
Then again, I haven't watched it since Jones went through her wedding and everything. I can imagine that was pretty insufferable, even if she is a Democrat. ;)

25. SO GLAD
no Patricia Heaton!

I can't even begin to talk about how much I dislike that woman and her inability to tolerate views that don't reflect her own.

This goes along with my theory that she won't be working much now that Everybody Loves Raymond has ended. I heard she was quite difficult on set. No one in Hollywood is going to be in a hurry to work with someone like her... She should have thought of that before she jumped on the Schiavo bandwagon, among other right wing issues I've seen her spout off about.

3. Not that I watched the show before, but I can certainly say with
confidence that I will NEVER watch that show, now.

I would rather jam needles into my eyes then listen to Rosie O'Donnell for one second.

6. Thank you. Regardless of my views on gun control, the way she
treated Tom Selleck when he was on her show was horrifying. He was there under the auspices of talking about a project he was working on and she launched into a grandstanding tirade. I used to enjoy her show, until that day.

Too bad. He's a class A jerk! Forget about it!

He is just another very hateful Repug toting a gun.

12. I don't like it when anyone traps a person. Whatever the cause.
It was disingenuous on her part. I can't stand Tom Selleck, but I can't stand what she did even more.

20. Are you kidding?
It was NOT a surprise. She talked about what she was going to do for two weeks before he appeared. I think the ambush was the other way around. Tom Selleck is a right-wing tool, and I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire.

33. Which is wonderful. I still don't like that kind of behavior, which is
just my opinion. What I'm trying to say is that I will still not watch the View. No one on there makes it worth it for me.

I love Rosie! I'm glad The View is finally getting someone that can handle that RW hack, Elisabeth! Her holier-than-thou attitude really pisses me off, but Rosie should be able to keep her in line - or at least counter-act the RW crap.

31. Even Howard Stern praised that special.
And he was never the biggest Rosie fan. In fact, he said he had a whole new respect for her just before he launched a tirade against the religious right and their gay adoption bans.

35. At least Howard understands where the real threat to our freedom lies
After all, he like lesbians if they are pretty and he thinks that he could get a threesome out of it. I think he'd even settle for the pretty lesbians to come onto his show and talk about a potential threesome.

36. Clash of the Egos. (Didn't O'Donnell trash Star Jones in the media?)
I don't know O'Donnell will adjust from having her own show to being stuck with Star Jones and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. I think she'd be sort of fun with Joy Behar and Barbara Walters, but Star and Elisabeth are annoying as hell.

Rosie O'Donnell is like the anti-Star Jones. Her comments that Star should just be honest about whatever the hell she did to lose weight were right on, in my opinion. Pilates my ass. (And no, I don't think it matters if she had surgery, but why lie? Pilates doesn't cause dozens of pounds to come off in just a few months).

I love all that she has done for the GLB community. I hope she keeps it up and uses that soapbox to offset the crap that Star Jones and Elizabeth Hasselback spew.

have a mix! Plus O'Donnell replaces the long term mommy/married role Viera did so well.
