2. I don't get it. Would someone explain the joke? |
|
To me it reads like this:
- Someone got beat up.
- The same person bought lottery tickets.
Are lottery tickets valuable? Given the numbers of people buying them vs. crime statistics, why should it be expected? Why is there an inferred correlation causation? If this was expected, why then sarcasm when lottery? Is lottery somehow really different to normal gambling? Why would gambling cause bieng beaten up anyway? What The FUCK is this post saying? I'm wigging hard here.

3. It's sarcasm based on the "blame the (rape) victim" mentality |
|
"She was a stripper for God's sake, what did she expect?"
"Strippers can't be raped"
"When a woman is in the business of selling sex, can we actually believe that she didn't want to have sex with those particular guys?"
etc, etc.
Therefore, if a guy is in the gambling business (and the lottery is gambling) and essentially giving his money away, can we realistically believe that he didn't want to give his money away to that mugger?
I've used a similar argument before but actually framed as a lawyer cross-examining a robbery victim. The lawyer asks the witness if he ever willingly gave money away before, to which the witness answers "yes". The lawyer then asks, "well then how can we believe that you didn't simply give the money away willingly to the alleged thief?".
