I thought she was very good in "Terms of Endearment" and "Being There."

But I really don't like mystics in general. She's a decent actress, but she uses her fame to promote silliness. I can't stand celebrity proselytizers.

I don't see her pushing her spirituality in everyone's face like some people we know. She does what she does and it matters not to her what anyone else thinks. I love that.

I haven't seen her latest films though - is "In Her Shoes" available to rent? I might get it tonight.

And look how great she looks! She's in her 70s, right? She still has such a mischevious look in her eye. I love her. Did I say that already?

She has done consistently good work over the years. Not all of them have been great...oy, seeing her in "Bewitched" wasn't a high point...

But she's a talented actress. And a good liberal Democrat.

even though im a fan of old movies (as i know you are) she is not one of my favorites
she is good in some and others the parts are a bit too manic or perhaps stagey

one scene of hers that i love is when she sings "im still here" in postcards from the edge
she was good in that whole thing actually and i dont dislike her but if i had to choose my favorite actresses from the same time period she wouldnt be on the top


on edit: i do respect her and always appreciate any actor etc who is still belting their way through a very difficult time in the whole hollywood scene (otherwise known as aging)

She was actually the subject of a cover story in Newsweek during the '72 campaign.

I think John Lewis's memoir Walking with the Wind also refers to her involvement with the civil rights movement.

So I appreciate those aspects of her life, plus her considerable talent, on display in everything from The Trouble with Harry to the latest films.

I don't really mind odd beliefs as long as the ones espousing them aren't telling others that they're wrong for THEIR beliefs (a la Tom Cruise). I find them rather refreshing for the most part - people who are brave enough to be individuals.

Shirley MacLaine is a damn fine actress and seems like a fun, likable person. She kinda reminds me of my wacky Aunt Alice.

She was great in "Irma la Douce", but I haven't liked much she's been in since then, and all the past life stuff is so off-putting. How much of it is hype, I'm not really sure, but it's been around so long, and I haven't heard of attempts by her to deny it.
