Is anyone planning on going to go see "Flight 93"? |

All the reviews are great but I'm worried it will be way too intense.

8. Yes - I am going tonight |
|
I have decided to see it. I am not sure how I will react to it. I am going more because of the director, Paul Greengrass. He did one of my favorite recent films, Bloody Sunday.
I know it will be hard to relive the emotions I felt that day, but I think it will be helpful for me.

10. United 93 (not to be confused with "Flight 93")... |
|
(Flight 93 was an A&E movie of the week type show, I believe, and United 93 is the Paul Greenglass movie that just opened today in my city).
I was planning on going tonight but since I took the day off, decided to go to the first show this afternoon instead.
Just got back an hour and a half ago.

15. I loved Greengrass's "Bloody Sunday" |
|
I plan on seeing "United 93" based on the stellar job he did with similarly controversial subject matter. There is a naturalism to his films that seperate them from your average Hollywood disaster drama.

Other than the Matt Damon crapfest he directed a few years ago, this brit is one stellar filmmaker. He is reason enough to see it.

Propaganda? Triumph of the Will? I don't think this is a movie Bushkins is gonna like....
Does anyone on here KNOW who Paul Greenglass is? Has anyone else seen the wonderful, anti-Establishment/official story, gritty, unsentimental "Bloody Sunday"? Or only me? Greengrass did HUGE research for both movies... I wasn't going to go see it, but these threads and a friend's review is making me change my mind. My friend's cousin died that day in the WTC... she said it was horrifying and scary and sad and torture... but she also found it healing.

38. Glad I missed that thread.... |
|
I saw the movie this afternoon and have posted about it on a number of threads this evening but I missed the one that was tanked so quickly (thankfully).
You are quite right about Paul Greenglass. He is no neocon stooge - quite the opposite!
Without repeating everything I've said on other threads, the movie does not pander to the Bush admin at all. The consensus at the end of the movie, judging by the comments of the audience, seemed to be that the Bush admin was obviously asleep at the switch, inept, incompetent, and absent when the country needed it most.

22. I don't think I will. |
|
It's way too depressing. A bunch of us were talking about it at work today and NOBODY wanted to see it -- just horrified about the whole idea. But then, I work for an airline and the whole thing just hits too close to home.
That said, I don't want to bash a movie I haven't seen. I've seen far too much of that from the fundies who boycott movies and books they find ideologically or theologically unacceptable, like "The Last Temptation of Christ" and the Harry Potter series, but when you ask them what they don't like about them they admit they've never seen them.
All the reviews suggest "United 93" was very well done, and not exploitative or pro-Bush in any way. But whatever; I just don't want to see it. It's too easy to imagine what might have happened without a movie to spell it out.
