My grandmother has had a stroke
At least they think so. she is okay, still in the hospital in Rochester, MN. She apparently has no ill effects from the stroke. She is 88 years old and apparently had had fluid on the brain for a while- she has had vertigo because of it.

I THINK she will be okay but this is setting up something of a family feud between my mother and one of her sisters. My aunt (who lives in Austin, TX) immediately flew up there and then proceeded to lay a guilt trip on my mother for not being there. My mom lives in Albany, NY. I am not sure of her work situation for taking time off for this. I am not sure what she could do if she was there. Not having the financial resources to take a flight at the last minute is a factor too, I am sure.

I see my aunt from time to time and try to stay out of it when she rags on her sisters, especially my mother. Now, my mom has issues- especially with my grandmother, who was always hard on all her daughters but especially my mom.

What a mess.

1. Egh. Sorry about grandma and the potential family imbroglio.
That sounds rough. I'd send my best wishes to grandma, then duck and cover, myself. But good luck to you, whatever happens next.

2. worse, parents are supposed to come visit in a couple of weeks
and stay with my aunt in Austin. Well I suppose it depends on what happens with my grandmother.

4. I hope your aunt is grateful for the valuable chance to be upset.
I suspect she overlooks that as part of her dealings with the family.

6. she broke her hip a couple of years ago
She recovered from that but doesn't get around so well. She came to Texas with my aunt and a couple of cousins last fall so I got to spend some time with her. Still very sharp. Ornery, too. LOL

Get this, she lives with a guy who is 80 (not my grandfather- she is living in sin!!) and probably in worse shape than her. I don't know how they manage.

7. My Grandmother had several strokes
She lived 20 more years after her first stroke, actually- she was quite the fighter. I hope there is a quick squelching to the family feud brewing because she'll need you all to stick together at a time like this. Well, enough preaching. Take care & try not to let your family get to you too much. My thoughts are with you.

10. Goddamn weak human bodies. Who did that, anyway?

Oh and, when money and jealousy come into play, it is a mess. Fortunately, blood is thicker than water. Unfortunately, money is thicker than blood.
