The NY Peace March.
Edited on Sat Apr-29-06 10:13 PM by ThomCat
The peace march was awesome.

I have no idea how many people were there. You can't get any perspective when you're in the crowd. There were 15 DUers there in our group, and at least one more DUer who was there but not with our group.

I got to meet JonnyBlitz, who is a friggin awesome guy! :headbang:

HarukaB.2000 is one of the nicest and most interesting young DUers to hang out with.

Catchawave is SO very incredibly sweet.

SharonRB and WolverineDG are both cool as hell. I want to see you two at some events in the future. :patriot:

Irmat is very, very quiet but very nice. Please stop lurking and post. We love you.

Fredda Weinberg was wonderful, and gets special thanks. I walk with crutches and don't handle tight crowds very well. She kept an eye on me and kept me going. I somehow managed to walk the whole length thanks to her.
:pals:

I got to meet Proud2BLib! I've been wanting to meet her for a while. We didn't get to talk much though, so we'll definitely have to not get separated next time.
:loveya:

I wish we got to spend more time with Lynne Sin and Betty Ellen. They were in and out and running the whole time. (I don't have a smiley for this.)

Raging in Miami ran into us for a few minutes. He seemed to be a man on a mission! I hope you got tons of great shots, and post some of them.

Kool Kitty and her husband, and KiteInTheWind joined us, but I barely got to talk with them. :( More next time.

Swag was there for the pre and post meetups but had to work through the march. Damn, I wanted to talk to him some more. And we needed more testosterone at that march!
:toast:

LionessPriyanka... :yourock: God, I'm glad you were able to make it!

I hope I didn't miss anyone. I don't think so, but if I did it is because of pain, and pain killers (and I'm very sorry). I loved everyone I met this weekend. DUers are great people!

I had to leave the post-march meetup early. Spending that much time on my feet beat the hell out of me. I wasn't in any shape to stay and socialize. I hope they're all still there hanging out and having a great time.

I hope a few other people will post soon too. There were several people with digital cameras.

"Peace Takes Courage .com"

It got some really good comments. I was sitting in the park holding it after the march and a bunch of people took pictures of us with the sign.

and i thought the same thing about you, too, what you said about me..

It was a hoot meeting and talking to you.

And it really was you that I was looking at in that mirror and not me, though my goal for the evening at one point became to keep my eyes off the decolletage.

You're a real smarty. I'm happy to know you.

43. I was pretty fucked up myself, as you may not remember.
If I was talking hairball, it was probably the one from the stomach of the 12 year-old girl compulsive hair eater that's on display at the National Museum of Health and Medicine on the Walter Reed campus in DC. If I talked about this, I probably mentioned the hairball refrigerator magnets. A limited repertoire is mine.

The girl lived.

from anne rule, i think... because i was thinking what happened to anne rule? and also, omigod caindy (the cat with herpes, not the one on the toilet) often tries to eat my hair. sometimes i wake up to her lunging towards my forehead and i hear her teeth snapping and gnashing.... sometimes she does eat it and it comes out making toilet training all the more amusing, but this story made me alarmed. also, she's stopped going after my hair, i believe this is a sign of the depression (caused by the herpes) that i may have missed. i missed the major signs of kitty depression. poor kid. so when it looked like my mind was wandering, well.... it was, quite a bit.

46. i never suspected two cats were double the work.
and as you know, i'm trying to weasel out of cleaning up after them.
i have a lot of guilt that i'm usually literally closer to Pea. she's just a cute weasely little thing that's always scoring the best location, the most pets. but she's bitchy and slaps caindy though, she knows she's cuter, like that little sister with the tutu in welcome to the dollhouse.
so of course caindy weiner dog is depressed. she looks like a egon scheil, was that the name?
now i realize how dysfunctional this all is, and i'm super glad it's not kids that i've fucked up.

67. That looks wonderful.
I must have seen that movie. I will seek it out. Look superior to Trilogy of Terror with Karen Black.

I remember her best from Norwood which I saw with my horrified parents and my brother at a drive-in near a campground on our car trip. Kim Darby had gotten pregnant by Glen Campbell or somebody. Or maybe Glen Campbell wasn't the sperm donor but was in fact the helpful male.

And from True Grit, of course. Her haughtily appraising John Wayne and telling him, "They say you have grit: true grit."

with trilogy of course, and sweet hostage as well as don't be afraid of the dark. maybe the devils triangle and born innocent.
i love karen black playing the twins, blond and brunette, in the great tradition of bewitched, i dream of jeannie, and betty and veronica.
talk about resurecting the classics, the evil twin theme is eternal.

My, that one spurred much dark chatter on the playground of Devlin School.

I bet the crazy man RD Laing would have postulated that the evil twin theme is a variation of the loss we feel when we're born and no longer have our placenta to keep us company.

Then there was "Dawn, Portrait of a Teenage Runaway," with Eve Plumb's star turn and "Cherry Bomb" by the Runaways playing over and over.

77. cherry bomb was a year or two later i think
i remember that album was playing when i first went to a high schoolers party and met my first junkie. it was a cast party for bye bye birdie and my cousin played the secretary that does the split and the junkie, of course, played conrad.
that was in the suburbs, i think i was in 6t or7th grade. i was the baby in both families, so people used to slap alot of makeup on me and take me completely inappropriate places.
Go Ask Alice, of course, and you can quote from it, too. I'm impressed.

About the Cherry Bomb/Eve Plumb thing.

I just conflate "Dawn, Portrait of a Teenage Runaway" with "Go Ask Alice" and "Born Innocent" in my tiny mind. Now that "Bye Bye Birdie" is in that mix, I'll be confused forever. Not a big change.

I leave in my John Master's Organic Vanilla Bourbon Tangerine Hair Texturizer in. It's all organic, food-grade ingredients though and out of curiosity, I did taste it once. Ginsberg is right; it's pretty tasty. Now that I don't get it free from work (oh how I loved those free samples), I switched to a cheaper brand. He apparently doesn't like the taste of it.

This is the photo show I was jabbering about last night at bettyellen's whiskey bar. It's at the International Center of Photography at 1133 Avenue of the Americas at 43rd St. I think it was $10 to get in.

A few images from the show -

62. Hi bettyellen !
Thanks for the sweet words, yes she's quite a kid, AND a protest veteran from her college days!!! She's "retired" now because she works 3 jobs to stay alive in NYC:D

Did you see the photos DG posted in the KOEB group from the Nancy Whiskey Pub? I'm finding NYC threads EVERYWHERE on DU right now, lots of photos, many by DUers who were in other parts of the march! Also, photos are up in the NY forum!

I've seen some of the Spirit Shirt, and kicking myself for not having printed the DUers names LARGER ! Some have seen their name....oh yeah....including a bragging mole from one of those "websites that cannot be mentioned" posted that s/he saw his name! I am so honored :)

61. Didn't get to meet any DUers in NYC but
the march WAS awesome..held in the BEST city in all of the world. I absolutely LOVE NYC. The Brooklyn Friends (Quakers) were kind enough to put my little group from St Louis up for two days. I got to narch and see parts of Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Took a pic of Tasini and had my pic taken with Rabbi Arthur Waskow which was pretty cool.

I WANT TO LIVE IN NYC!!!!
