Finally...I just heard Tool's new one, "Vicarious"... |
|
Edited on Sat Apr-29-06 11:13 PM by VelmaD
I'd been trying to catch it the last few days and the stars finally aligned for me. Loved it and was interested in what the other Tool fans around here thought. Tuesday can't get here soon enough.
Plus I figured this is a sure fire way to get slutticus and leftist rebel to come out of hiding. :)
Danny Carey is STILL god. :headbang:

is making better songs with A Perfect Circle. I think Tool has lost their mojo.

but I usually prefer Tool...they're louder. :) Plus, as I mentioned, I think Joe (FUCK I'm an idiot - meant Danny) Carey is GOD. I'm interested to see what rhythmic complexities he's come up with on the new album.

Gods I'm an idiot when I haven't slept. *sneaks off in shame to edit*
Joe Carey was a freakin' character on Star Trek: Voyager...which I didn't even like for fuck sake.

3. I've had the CD for about a week |
|
Edited on Sat Apr-29-06 11:11 PM by DS1
It's more a tribute to Maynard's mother than it is a music CD, and that kinda pisses me off. While it has less songs than most Tool CDs, it also has the same amount of tracks of Tool dicking around with non-music, one of which even starts out wonderfully, but goes nowhere. Tool and A Perfect Circle fans will IMMEDIATELY pick out riffs borrowed from both bands, it's that blatant.
Sorry to say, but they really phoned this one in, so to speak.

There's always a chance that the torrented version isn't the CD version, but I'd say it's unlikely.
I did listen to it for about all of that week in my car, and Danny Carey DOES do some really cool things with the drums, however, 10,000 days is about the near 30 years Maynard's mother lived after a severe stroke which left her paralyzed on one side of her body, and she finally passed away not too long ago. Judith Marie was her name, Judith being a song on the APC record, and 3 of the songs on this are about her. They're touching, and sad, and well done, but while the sound is a cross between Aenima and Lateralus, the spark isn't there. This of course, is my opinion, you may take it differently.

8. I guess I'll find out on Tuesday... |

*sigh*
I'm not sure I need touching and sad right now. I'm just coming out of my own bout of depression and I WANT LOUD GODDAMMIT. :)

13. I think the best quasi-Tool release is still the Replicants. |
|
I know it's all covers, and it's only half of Tool and half of Failure, but it's a great, mostly ignored (and I believe no longer in print) album that really showcases the musical prowess of the performers.
I saw Tool in, I think, 1993, and Failure opened for them. Then both bands played together and did Bowie's "The Bewlay Brothers" and Pink Floyd's "Ibiza Bar".
Wow.

:)
Being a grown up sucks, though. They're playing in Dallas a week from Monday and even if I could afford the horrendously overpriced scalped tickets...I couldn't get off work to go. :(
Hope the 19 year old appreciates you. :)
