Anyone know the cause of the feud between vidal and capote?
I googled it and I can not seem to find the cause of the long bitter feud between gore vidal and truman capote.I heard Gore said capotes death was his best career move.I wondered what would cause this kind of rancor.

1. "He didn't dislike Vidal so much.
He didn't hate Vidal the way Vidal hated him. They rubbed each other the wrong way. They didn't ever have an affair. But at the beginning they got along pretty well, quite well. They had lunch, I think, once a week in the Oak Room of the Plaza Hotel."

"Wasn't that a gay meeting place?"

"I don't know. I've never heard that, but you may well be right. I certainly couldn't dispute it. I'm surprised if that's the case. Well, anyway, they had lunch there once a week, and then I think they became two rival writers.

3. Vidal thought Capote
was a hack. Wasn't using his skill to the full potential and wasn't "closeted" enough in his writings. They were friends in the beginning, but as they both grew more successful, the claws came out. I personally think Capote felt betrayed by his friend. He wasn't a man who made close friends easily.

4. I think they were competitive with one another and also Truman
was pretty open about his homosexuality (and much more feminine) whereas Vidal still had a lot of self-loathing in that area. When it comes right down to it, I think it was nothing more than thinly disguised rivalry even though Gore would probably say differently.

5. The Vidal and Capote clans have been fueding for generations.
Fanny, the youngest capote, has lived in fear of the Vidals and has hated them for as long as she can remember. The fued between both of their families started back when the capotes stole pigs from the Vidals, and the hatred between them has brewed. Then, on Election Day in 1880, Roseanna Capote, the prettiest Capote, runs away with Johnse Vidal, the handsomest Vidal. The hatred spills over and starts a series of fights, finally ending with the Capote house being burnt down, with 6 of the Caotes dead and one man hanged for a crime he didn't commit. The story of the Capotes and the Vidals, is one of the most famous tales in American folklore.

I think I got this info from the Internets.
