25. That's the one I was thinking of |
|
The thing with Lovitz is he usually plays assholes, like in "A League of Their Own." He's good at playing assholes, so we think of him as an asshole.
The best compliment you can give to an actor who plays assholes is, "You were great. I hated you."
If I were a casting director, Lovitz would be in every '40s-era film that needed a wise-cracking asshole.

are really all regurgitations of his "liar" character. Wedding Singer and LOTO come to mind. He seems to be well liked by other comics. And I cant really get down on a guy for taking a fat paycheck from Subway.

He was one of the funniest ever on SNL.
Tommy Flenagle, his devil routine, the "ACTING" routine,
it is a shame he doesn't get better stuff to do. Kinda like Dana Carvey.

29. Maybe it is a matter of roles, as you suggest |
|
But I find his personality so off-putting, whether in a role or an interview, that I can't get past it. I could tolerate his terrible onscreen antics if he seemed like a great guy, or I could deal with his (to me) unbearable personality if his roles/performances were funnier.
But he's a perfect storm of dreadfulness. Can't stand him in any incarnation I've seen.

There are many popular comedians I can't stand, like Adam Sandler, Jerry Lewis, Andrew Dice Clay.
Others, like Lovitz, are so funny to me that I would laugh at him reading the phonebook.
