Anybody else watching Casablanca?
The scene with La Marseillaise(sp?). Gives me chills every time.

1. I think I'll go curl up in bed and see if I can find the right channel.

2. Hi Joan!
How's things with my neighbor to the south? One of these days I am going to get down there and have a beer with you! :hi:

3. A great scene. One of many.
So many great lines. An almost perfect movie.

6. The one thing that bugs me about this movie
is when Bogie says boor-bun, instead of burr-bun. Don't know why it bugs me, but it does. I always get over it though. :-)

4. I just noticed that Bogart was choking back tears
When he was convincing Elsa to leave with Laslow.....

5. Always chokes me up too.
But the final scene with "Louie, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship" makes me grin from ear to ear.

7. Bergman was a fascinating woman. So breath taking yet not classically
beautiful like a Grace Kelly or a Hedy Lamarr. Her face is so interesting that it is impossible to look at anything else when she is on the screen. She wrote a great autobiography if anyone would be interested in reading it.

8. Did you read Aljean Harmetz's book on Casablanca?
The original title was Round Up the Usual Suspects, but it's now published as The Making of Casablanca: Bogart, Bergman, and World War II (or something like that). It's an amazing book about everything Casablanca or Casablanca-affiliated -- how the screenplay was put together, what effect rationing had on the film, the personal stories of the actors, etc. It's a must-read if you are truly interested in the film, and it has a DU element in that it covers the politics of the day, too.

Two warnings: It appears that someone did a really poor job of proofing and editing the book (at least that's true of all the copies I've seen). In addition, there are some rather tedious passages on the studio system, which I read like homework and not with pleasure. But you've GOT to read it, especially if you have an interest in the actors.
