The new Mac ads are hysterical
Oddly "Gates-ish" and "Jobs-ish" looking characters appear in a series of six new Mac ads. Anyone seen 'em? I especially like the "iLife" and "Network" ads. It's nice to see Apple finally addressing the issues more directly instead of just trying to win customers with glamor shots of their hardware.

6. Yup- saw that one last night.
Very cute, clever.

I own a Mac. I looked over at my wife, who is hardcore PC- I prod her with the reliability of Macs all the time. Even she had to admit that it was a good commercial.

What does the Mac guy say? Something like, "Don't worry, I'll be fine."

7. I actually had a guy tell me the rainbow Apple sticker meant I was gay
I used to sport one on the back of the family mini-van, even after Apple switched to the white logo. This guy, whom I know only in a casually but isn't really a "friend," asked me why I had that sticker on my car. "You know what the means, right?"

I said "sure, it means I own an Apple computer."

"No, it means you're gay. That what people will think, anyway," he said.

"Fine with me," I told him. "I'm not trying to make friends with ignorant homophobes anyway." Shut him right up.

9. I thought it meant gay too.
The rainbow - not just the apple logo alone!

10. I think that is why Apple changed it
That, and the fact that the plain white went along with their new corporate look better. But yes, the rainbow has pretty much been co-opted as a symbol of gay pride, or at least, support.

the Covenant between Creator and the human beings that was established at the time of Noah and his Ark. So lots of people would say.

But I would say it's obsolete these days, Totally Last Age.

The Sunbow -- or Whirling Rainbow -- is the Sky Sign du jour, for those anticipating the New Age.

In the teachings of Turtle Island, it is understood that nobody (no group, no idea, no nothing) owns or can claim exclusively the Whirling Rainbow. It whirls over all.

15. Looks pretty dumb to me
the dressed down, poor looking guy pushing the machine that is intensely proprietary and overpriced, the button down elitist corporate type pushing the machine that is cheap enough to be accessible to all. What's wrong with that picture?

I think the whole dispute is silly as hell. If Jobs wants to get as rich as Gates, he needs to work on issuing a version of his OS that will work on PC hardware.

When that happens, people will have an honest choice instead of corporate posturing.

What on earth makes you think "Jobs wants to get as rich as Gates?" WTF? Maybe Steve Jobs knows that the billions he already has is perfectly adequate for just about anything he could possibly want to do. Maybe it is enough for Jobs to hold the honor of being the father of a cultural icon instead of the father of a mass-market cludge which is at best tolerated, and generally loathed as a necessary evil.

Don't even get me started on the "overpriced" thing. It's been debunked so many times I don't even bother to save the links anymore. You can buy a $250 PC, just like you can buy a $500 car. They're both just as reliable and will give you about as many years of trouble-free service.

18. Cool! Just in time for the arrival of my new used iBook today! I started
as a Mac user (with a Mac Plus) and was forced into PC land. My present PC laptop is failing and I decided to go back to Mac! I love them. :)
