Man charged with potty training torture

Warren County, Ohio - An Ohio man accused of torturing his four-year-old grandson in an effort to potty-train him was indicted by a grand jury on Monday.

David Hubbard of Turtle Creek Township in Warren County has been charged with endangering a child.

Police allege the abuse took place in Hubbard’s home in Shadow Lake Village mobile home park.

He's accused of using plastic wrap to tie the boy to a child toilet seat, rubbing the boy's nose in urine, using duct tape to keep peppers inside his mouth and duct-taping him to an entertainment center.

Somehow, that seems far less barbaric than this guy's choice. (Not that I'm advocating a switch to train anything - human or animal).

I do joke that I'm going to duct tape my kids to the wall. But really, it is just a joke.

When we were expecting our first many, many years ago, I got a bunch of books on child birthing and early rearing, and Dr. Brazelton dealt with potty training very wisely. He explained so well how to do it right.

He was right! It worked great.

These people who get evil with babies like this! It hurts my heart to even hear of it.

I used to have a whole library on child rearing, which I started while the first one was on the way. He really had a lot of sound ideas. I think his gentle and understanding way with little ones impressed me most, and communicated the importance of not yelling at them.

I've gotten into online debates with parents who think that a drop of pepper sauce on the tongue is appropriate discipline. Sorry, but in my opinion, it's on the same continuum as what's described in this story. It's all WRONG.

I was trained on a potty that had a feature that kept you locked in via a tray...there are literally pictures of me sitting on the potty chair coloring...the kinds of photos my brother brought out to torture me with...

I let my kids walk around in wet underwear for a bit and they realized that dry undies were so much more comfy and started using the toilet... did I torture them...??? Hell no...they realized that wet feeling is nasty...in my opinion kids who wear real cotton diapers are potty trained faster because of this very issue...my nephews and neice were all going on the potty by 18 mos to 2 years...because wet cotton diapers are icky...

However this jerky father is a pig a sadist and probably wasn't raised so differently from what he was doing to this child...

12. Agreed. I can't imagine what kind of harm he has done to this

little boy with this treatment. Like you, I used cotton diapers and training pants. When my kids realized how much better dry pants felt, and how much praise they got for using the potty, the training almost took care of itself.
