I quote:

To: alnick
This president simply refuses to fight back. That's his prerogative. However, again I ask: why does President Bush willingly subject himself to these juvenile events? Doesn't he get enough of this treatment during the week? The man is a gluten for punishment, and it's starting to look bad.

And I thought gluten was the substance that should be avoided by people with Celiac disease

12. Have you ever tried to knead gluten dough?
(Just a curiosity question. :) )

I use it to make seitan (wheat meat.) Let's just say that it isn't the easiest thing to do! :D

9. And on the opposing side...
back when I worked in organic land, I had a very liberal coworker that was supposed to make me signs that said "Gluten-Free" but she made me a bunch of signs that said "Glutton-Free."

11. The Glutano cookies are awesome.
I'm a big fan of the Hazelnut Chocolate Bars and the Coconut Cookies. Also, the Enjoy Life Snickerdoodles. A lot of it sucks, but a lot of it is actually good. I'd get samples of everything so I know the good shit man. :smoke:

18. Question:
are hot-house veggies (esp sweet peppers) sprayed less than those that aren't?

I don't know if there is a lot of hot-housing your way...there's a lot up here, considering our long winters...

19. We only carried organic produce, so nothing was sprayed.
So honestly, I don't know if they're sprayed less. Personally, I would imagine they would be, but I can't tell you for sure. There in a decline in quality and an increase in price for sweet peppers during the off-season though. Only the green peppers are remotely affordable.

However, we'd get produce in from Chile, Mexico, New Zealand, et cetera when it wasn't in season. So obviously, we'd get stuff shipped a very long way organically during the winter (not as far as you though).

15. I'll have to try the Glutano stuff
We don't have the second product up here.

I just got sick and tired of spending a lot of money when so much of it tastes like crud. (especially when they overdo the brown rice flour and the cookies taste gritty)

I've never found any bread remotely tasty, except for a couple of the Kinnikinnick ones. Anything else from Kinnikinnick is wonderful. (all their dessert/snack products are to die for)

17. I never had a gluten-free bread I liked either.
I like all of the Glutano-brand cookies I've tried. They have a really big product selection and even make a marble cake that's pretty good.

Pamela's-I only like their espresso chip cookies.

As for Enjoy Life, ask the store to start carrying it. United Natural Foods (largest distributor-nationwide), Tree of Life and Gardenspot all carry Enjoy Life. So, even if the store doesn't carry it, they should be able to get it. It's a big seller and United has taken over the industry so there should be no reason they can't get it.

Haven't tried the Kinnikinnick stuff but I used to carry it.

Also, the Namaste baking mixes were huge sellers. The line is gluten-free and I used to order it from the Tree of Life distributor. All the other gluten-free baking mixes, I would only have to order every couple weeks/monthly but Namaste I'd have to order the whole line weekly.

I'm not sure if it's Van's or not, but one of the companies makes a really awesome gluten-free Mixed Berry Buckwheat waffle.

20. Pamela's -
those were the gritty ones...a couple of others, too, that I can't remember.

There are a few others...but most of the health food stores here stock Kinnikinnick to the 9's, because it's a local bakery (that's what it started out as a few years back) but they kept on expanding, and now ship to all across Canada and then the US. It's also pretty cheap shipping, considering you drive 10 miles at most, and pick up your order. :)

They also sell a few other gluten free products beside their own, even the Glutano - at least it was in their shop last time I was there.

Are you celiac yourself?

23. No, I can eat everything.
I just worked as a grocery buyer at a natural foods store and I organized all the gluten-free departments and wrote the "gluten-free shopping guide." I was there for 3.5 years, so I learned alot about celiac and food allergies. I'd get samples of stuff all the time, so I got to try lots of stuff, plus I also got to see what sold the best.
