Man Puts Dog In Washing Machine And Turns On Hot Cycle - Arrested
<snip>

EULESS, Texas (AP) — A 32-year-old man faces an animal cruelty charge after allegedly putting a dog in a washing machine and turning on the hot water cycle, officials said.

The dog was later euthanized.

Chad Edward Ellis was indicted Friday on a charge of animal cruelty by a Tarrant County grand jury. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to two years in prison and fined up to $10,000, authorities said.

"Based on what he told us, he became angry with the dog," said Euless police Lt. W.L. Pavlik.

A 25-year-old woman, who was a friend of Ellis, had found the year-old female black Labrador retriever mix in January and took it to a Grapevine animal shelter. The dog was taken to a veterinarian for treatment, authorities said. But the animal's injuries failed to heal and it was euthanized.

Police said Ellis also was connected to a rash of dog disappearances in the area. Four neighbors in January reported their pets missing or stolen, and one said he had seen Ellis carrying dog leashes in backyards.

Authorities searched Ellis' home on a warrant and found all four animals, which were subsequently returned to their owners.

1. You know, there are easier ways to get off than to make a dog hot...
The guy is sick. Especially so if he stole dogs to do that deed on. x(

2. What a sick bastard
Lately it seems like it's becoming more common to sentance people to therapy and forbid them from having animals in the future after conviction on cruelty charges. I hope that happens here, in addition to the maximum sentance and fine, though two years seems far too short.

11. He was sure it was an accident?
What the hell? Sure, people burn thier cats in the shower all the time, since cats just love water. :eyes: And of course, the natural response when accidentally injuring an animal is to leave it until Dad gets home to discover the problem. Really, that's what any animal lover would do, right? :wtf:

What the hell was the matter with that vet? I'm thinking maybe he was afraid to lose money if he got a reputation for reporting abuse cases? Please, if this guy is still practicing let this be known locally. I'm sure a lot of people would be happy to take thier business to a vet who doesn't cover up abuse.

14. Vet said he was sure the kid didn't mean to hurt the cat, just wash it.
Teenager didn't know the water was on all the way hot and it was an accident. He is still practicing, though I have referred people elsewhere since. I was appalled, he wanted to fire me for getting him into trouble for not reporting it, local aspca person said it was an accident also. It is even worse, teen put cat into shower to "wash it", turned water on high not realizing it was only hot. Cat screamed and bounced around, once teen figured out it was hurting beyond "usual" upset with being wet, let cat out, cat hid in closet until parent came home, found cat, took to vet. This was one of those times when I really really really considered violence, turned to the authorities who agreed with vet's accident assessment. Way wrong.

Vet is married to a friend, pretty much ended that friendship except for occasionally getting together with my friend (minus vet) in public places.

We got a good vet that has taken up much of the slack, does wildlife rescue, etc, took him a fawn a couple yrs ago that had been hit by car. Fawn died but he didn't charge us anything for the day of care. Good kind nice vet.

12. Good for you - today's animal abuser could be tomorrow's human abuser
I would think you have to report any signs of someone abusing an animal.

13. unfortunately you can't teach people compassion toward animals
what you can do is prosecute them, fine them, lock them up.

I believe they should have done to them precisely the horror they inflicted on the defenseless creatures, Old Testament style. Fuckers.
