I didn't realized I had already passed 7000...and then Mike Malloy mentioned John's death....
I recall hearing the news when I woke up in the morning! I was in total shock, and so was everyone at work.

I wish he were here today...he'd be with us, fighting, I really believe that!

Edit: spelling-- here

2. Maybe I'm being naive
But I honestly think the world would be a bit different had he not been killed. If his peace campaign kept going it would have picked up more and more followers.

5. Oh man. I was halfway between Singapore and Perth, Aus
When we heard the news. A bunch of us sat up really late on the messdeck and sang Beatle songs.
Long time ago.

7. My sig line pays tribute to John....
even now when I think of his death, I start to tear up. His death is still felt very deeply by me. Such a loss of life and love and wonderfull music.

At least he now has George to make music with.

8. It doesn't seem like 23 years....
My gosh! It honestly doesn't seem like it was that long ago.

The Beatles song, "Help" is the tune I always associate with him for some reason. There really doesn't seem much to say. His death was a waste and a tragedy and we lost out on a lot more music the guy still had in him.

Here's to you, John...

10. I had the tv off that night
and woke up Tues. AM to the news. I was teaching 8th grade at the time and the 13 year olds, even though they hadn't been born until '67, were subdued. It was such a sad time. Can only imagine how John would have reacted to the chimp, Cheney, and Ashcroft.
God, I miss his brand of no bullshit, take no prisoners honesty.

12. I had just given birth to my second child when I heard the news; I was
in the hospital and was watching TV with no sound, and saw John's picture with "1940-1980" under it and I thought, "Cool, Lennon's birthday..." and then in a split second realized it was not, that's not in December, and they don't write the dates like that for a birthday, holy shit...and turned up the sound just in time to hear, "...shot dead in front of his New York apartment."
The very first thing, honest, that ran through my head was "Ob la di, ob la da, life goes on..." and so I named my daughter Molly after the girl in the song.
Happy Birthday, Kiddo, and John, you're still missed...

14. On this day, my mother was nine months
pregnant with me. She remembers seeing the news scrolled across the television. A week later, ( I was due that week, but hung around until January 19th), she went to a candlelight vigil for him. I don't think she has ever really recovered from the shock.
