9:45: Tim Mungenast & his Pre-Existing Conditions (with Squeech on bass)

10:45: Soundscapes (from NYC)

11:45: 28 Degrees Taurus

We practiced last night for the first time in a month. It was good, in the face of adversity-- not only were we rusty and hurting (I tried to get away with a lot of stuff my fingers weren't capable of, and stumbled all over myself), but my usual instrument didn't want to function, so I hauled out my old high school bass guitar, a Japanese P-bass knockoff. And we surprised ourselves, pleasantly.

The other thing that's happening now is, Tim doesn't want to sing so much. So there are two notions we're pursuing: doing more purely instrumental music, including jams, and having me sing the songs. I do sing adequately-- arguably better than Tim-- but I'm not used to singing while also playing my complicated bass parts. So that's gonna take a lot of practice, and it's not certain that I'll be on top of it by gig time.

As is my custom, I'll be kicking this throughout the day, as well as reposting it the week of the gig.

4. Hey Squeech!
I would love to see you but live too far away. Son is bass player in Boston- but is not 21 so misses lots of shows he would like to see. He will be at Paradise on the 19th playing bass with Protean Collective. Sorry this thread is so dusty! :hi:

5. Let's hear it for bass players!
Is he attending Berklee? Has he got a band?

Yeah, it sucks that the standard venue for live rock is the bar. My nephew, to whom I give guitar lessons, has only seen me play once. One of the great things I miss about classic punk rock was the DIY movement that created the all ages show out of nothing but gumption and bricolage.

7. Cool
Let me know when they're playing somewhere? (Berklee lecture halls aren't bad venues either.)
