I Am Mad At The Show, "Lost" (SPOILERS)
So, we spend this entire season getting to know Anna Lucia and the other blonde woman, and then whammo! they are both killed by Michael last night. It's like the entire year that we spent putting their story lines together is gone forever. We start back at square one.

1. Who says they are both dead
Jack was on his way back, presumably after Locke told him. He walks in and using the first aid kit from the plane performs two open laporatomies (or whatever medical term is right) with each hand and removes the bullets, repairs the damage and they all live.

Okay, really not likely. But, I would not be surprised if Libby lives, but does not come out of it right away to give up Michael.

14. Ooh good point.. Anna's a goner for sure, but the other woman
was gutshot... so she has a chance.

2. Well, we knew they wanted to get rid of Michelle Rodiguiz
because of her behavior but I agree about Libby. Hell, might as well kill off Hurley because he serves no other purpose on that island. At least with Libby there he started to have a connection to the others on the island and a sense of purpose

3. Now Hurly gets to blame himself for aother death!
If Hurly could have found the beach, this would never have happened.
If Hurly remembered the wine, this would never have happened.

If Woody had gone straight to the police, this would never have happened.

4. we loved the whole first season, but
it seems all the good writers left or ran out of ideas...

this season has too many flashbacks and "clips" shows...

unless last night's show turns out to be some dream sequence,
add me to the first year fans who are now 'lost'

5. I loved it
How exactly are we back at square one?

Does AL or Libby's death nullify anything about the Others? Or DHARMA? Or the mystery of the hatch? Libby's barely had maybe 40 lines in the entire show; I notice you didn't even refer to her by name.

I think that's the first time I've ever actually been shocked by something fictional that I saw on TV; I can't wait to see how it all plays out.

I personally am of the camp that prefers Season 2 over Season 1 (so far, anyway). I watched most of Season 2 reasonably straight through during this last little break, and, when seen without huge gaps between episodes, this season's story arc has been pretty fantastic thus far.

6. Here's what irritates me about the show
Edited on Thu May-04-06 12:25 PM by LynneSin
Rose & Bernard aren't even listed in the opening credits for Lost and yet they had their own flashback episodes and yet Libby's portrayer (Cythia Waltros) was.

IMDB always lists who is in the show by order of credit with those who have left the show at the bottom of the list

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0411008/fullcredits
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje .... Mr. Eko (2005-)
Naveen Andrews .... Sayid Jarrah (2004-)
Emilie de Ravin .... Claire Littleton (2004-)
Matthew Fox .... Dr. Jack Shephard (2004-)
Jorge Garcia .... Hugo "Hurley" Reyes
Maggie Grace .... Shannon Rutherford (2004-2005)
Josh Holloway .... James "Sawyer" Ford (2004-)
Malcolm David Kelley .... Walt Lloyd (2004-2005)
Daniel Dae Kim .... Jin Kwon
Yoon-jin Kim .... Sun Kwon (2004-) (as Yunjin Kim)
Evangeline Lilly .... Kate Austen
Dominic Monaghan .... Charlie Pace (2004-)
Terry O'Quinn .... John Locke (2004-)
Harold Perrineau .... Michael Dawson (2004-)
Michelle Rodriguez .... Ana-Lucia Cortez (2005-)
Cynthia Watros .... Libby (2005-)
Ian Somerhalder .... Boone Carlyle (2004-2005)

So why would they give Rose & Bernard a flashback when they have no purpose on the island other than filler for characters having conversations. And yet here is a Tailie who is listed in the opening credits who served no purposes other than she may or may not be Hurley's stalker from the Loony Bin.

That's just poor writing. Yes, Waltros also had a DUI but unlike Rodriguiz she cleared it up ASAP and probably isn't as difficult to work with has MR.

EDIT NOTE: I've been a fan of Cythia Waltros since her days on Guiding LIght when she played nutty Annie Dutton (and won an emmy). She was also great on "Titus" and it's a shame that they wasted her time bringing her own the show and then just tossing her away without fleshing out her character. If they weren't going to use her then she should have been delegated to same credits that Rose & Bernard have

7. I liked Cynthia in Titus too
I'm not so familiar with her Guiding Light work.

That said -- firstly, she might not even be dead yet.

Secondly, we have no idea what role Rose and Bernard may have to play in episodes/seasons to come. (We don't really know anything about anyone's role in the grand scheme, really.)

Third, even if she is dead, we may find out more about her through other people's flashbacks. After all, Jack's dad was dead before the show even started, and we know quite a bit about him.

I dunno; I can understand some of your frustration -- particularly if she was one of your faves. (Eko is one of mine, and I'm worried about what's going to happen to him after seeing next week's preview.) That said, I don't usually watch a whole lot of TV, and this show has thoroughly and completely absorbed and entertained me from the moment I saw the pilot up through last night. I'm going to trust that the writers and producers know where they're headed and what they're doing with this show.

11. Are you sure Jack's Dad is really dead?
Edited on Thu May-04-06 01:04 PM by bluethruandthru
I think he is the leader of the "others". Remember in the flashback he told Anna Lucia how unforgiving he was of his son and how it ruined his life? ...then Henry Gale - in the lock-up - said he couldn't go back to the Others after having failed because his leader wasn't a forgiving man? HMMMM??

15. I'm never sure about anything on Lost
That seems a little unlikely, though. I mean he was working as chief surgeon at a hospital up until about a year ago; I don't know how you'd have time to organize something like that so quickly.

Now, Locke's father... I could see him being the leader of the Others quite easily. Didn't have a job, had a lot of money from somewhere, also cold and calculating -- and definitely would have had need of an Island with special healing properties.

But, as said, it's Lost, so who knows? Walt is probably the infamous "him"...

8. Both Ana Lucia and Libby were arrested for drunk driving...
I don't think the producers wanted to be associated that behavior, and wrote them out of the show.

Last nights episode was called "Two for the Road" after all.

and thought it might have referred to more than just Jack's Dad's and Anna Lucia's meeting.

12. I need to give you my best friend's phone number
I've never watched one episode (I know, I'm totally out of the loop and behind the times) and every Wednesday, my best friend calls me (from Florida - I'm in Ohio) and desperately wants to talk about the Lost episode she just watched.

Last night, she was trying to explain the big plot twist and I was trying very hard to empathize with her, but I was no good at it. I listened, dutifully, but I had nothing to add other than, "wow - that's so weird."

I told her that I need to set her up with a phone buddy with whom she can discuss her feelings about each Lost episode. (Apparently her husband tries to watch it with her but falls asleep and none of her friends in Florida watch it.) She keeps trying to get me to rent the DVDs or watch the big "catch-up" episodes but it doesn't happen. I am a terrible "Lost" friend!

10. "Party Girl" massacre.
Libby I think has other commitments on another show on CBS. The rumor about Ana Lucia is that she wore out her welcome on the set. Anybody catch the Hanso Foundation commercial? That was pretty cool. I have been noticing other commercials during LOST that have "LOST" theme. Something tells me this is the future for advertising, seamless product placement.

13. Yeah... I said to my husband "they just jumped the shark"
when Anna Lucia didn't fight back against the "other" dude. *sigh*

She's supposed to be a former COP! Helloooooo? Writers? :wtf:

I kinda expected her to die last night, though... Anna Lucia, I mean... sweeps week and so many apparently don't like her... the other woman, though... that was a surprise.

So Michael's a traitor huh? Didn't see that coming either.

I'll keep watching, though... just to see if they can salvage the trainwreck, if nothing else.

Maybe... I've missed a few episodes lately. Completely forgot to watch, so... maybe it's already too late.

16. Well...if you are a fan of the Purgatory theory...
It made sense for Anna-Lucia to die. Everyone who dies has just resolved or come to terms with their "issue". Hers seemed to be her relative ease with killing people (or something). When she couldn't kill Henry..it seemed her issue was resolved.

I don't really try to figure it out... just along for the ride...

but now I have to wonder, what could Libby have resolved? She was in the asylum with Hurley, I know that much, but I've missed at least one episode, so... ???

Any thoughts?

when Hurley said in the clip that he was glad Michael was okay... he didn't seem as depressed as I would expect someone who just lost a new love interest to be.

Guess we'll wait and see! :)

It's purgatory, baby. Her last line is, "I just can't do this anymore." and then BAM she's "dead." Off to heaven you go now that you have come to grips with yourself.

25. She (apparently) killed a guy in cold blood...
Then accidentally killed Shannon. (Not to mention the two Others she killed.) Cop or not, you kill someone in cold blood and someone by accident, unless you're a sociopath, you're probably going to feel a lot of remorse. Her last words were "I can't do this anymore," for fuck's sake. The writers knew exactly what they were doing by having her not kill Henry.

28. Ah, sorry, misread that.
No idea why she didn't fight back. The tirade was because I thought you were talking about her not being able to shoot him when she had the chance (as I said, I misread your post) and it seemed stupid to the point of annoying me, and blatant stupidity is a pet peeve of mine. I copletely disagree about it jumping the shark though. It's just getting more interesting to me.

26. You people need to read TV Guide
"Libby" already has another show she's going to be staring in in the fall-but HA HA that didn't mean she was leaving LOST. I think we already discussed both of these characters demises a couple weeks ago. Really sloppy with the plots, Lost must be if yahooos on the internet know the story line first. Plus, TV Guide always has spoilers. I was thrilled that mean cop chick is gone. The other one-I liked her. But yah know, show business.
