7. Work
A coworker who barely avoided getting fired went to another company, gets more pay, less work, better benefits, great perks and she's bragging about it to us. I haven't had a raise in years, and my workload recently doubled.
X(

I'm thinking seriously about quitting, but that means I have to put out my resume to headhunters and start interviewing. Which would be great except that means taking time off from work, which will put me even further behind in the meantime.

11. Well, you guessed correctly, I just came back from posting the purse.
I had hoped I might be able to get away with not writing my or her name on it, but you can't do that if you want to send it express mail. x(

Unfortunately, I came back too late to make it to class, so I'm just going to work on my project from home.

16. Well, very few people IRL are talking to me.
I've only made about three DU posts today, so that's not really anything to go on, but IRL people have sensed I'm pissed and are avoiding contact with me...one of the few exceptions being my EX-ex-girlfriend (with whom I am still on good terms), which I found odd and ironic.

26. At some point
Ex's that you're still in touch with become awesome people. They know you, good and bad, and they are in a position to be honest with you.

I wish I was in touch with more of mine. But ever since I moved to NYC I lost touch with the old ones.

10. It was very nice and mellow.
I was treated to two lunches and one dinner earlier this week by cool coworkers. Other than that, most people didn't notice or care. Only one card, no gifts.

Birthdays get more and more mellow as you get older. I'm pushing 40 now, so...

:pals: Somedays it seems like no one wants to talk, hope you are doing ok.

Early in the wk I found out the lump in my jaw is not a tumor but merely a HUGE abcess, now on antibiotics and (thank you loungers) setting up with dental school to have (no insurance) root canal/etc done at ~ 1/2 cost. Have to put yet another new engine in car, UPjr checked oil and didn't get oilcap back on right=scoring of bearings=can't drive until get new engine in (UPjr is doing better about checking oil since letting our last cheap car run dry and killing it). On good points are it is spring and things are growing which is good. A vacation would be nice.

27. I've had good experiences with Dental Schools.
You can get some awesome care there. I'm glad there's one near you.

I have dental insurance but it only covers so much. The price of dental care here in Manhattan is so high we might as well not have insurance. We pay more over-and-above what is covered than people in other parts of the country pay in total without coverage.

That's yet another reason to leave NYC eventually. But I'd miss all the awesome food here.
:P

62. I thought there was good seafood in the NYC/NE area then...
I went to Hawaii. I could get sashimi EVERYWHERE! I probably ate raw fish twice a day most days. Now that's the life. Sashimi from the poolside restaurant and some beers for lunch. Jump in the hot tub. Go snorkeling with some sea turtles. Sashimi appetizer at dinner. More drinks. Bed. Repeat for 10 days. I'm not sure where my family is doing the dysfunctional Brady Bunch trip this summer.

Not really. I'm glad you had so much fun.

I grew up dirt poor, on welfare for a while, raised by a single mom. I went from that to burried in my own student loans. So I've never been able to travel. I know lots of people who have been to hawaii, all over europe, asia and latin america. I've rarely ever left New York State. Oh well...

I love hearing about the great time people have traveling. I get to enjoy it vicariously.

70. My family never had money.
After my dad died, my mother married a guy who owns his own medical advertising company. It was a pretty big change to go from a family trip being a day or two down the shore to family trip to Hawaii and being able to say, "Oh yeah, I went up to his CT house this weekend." He doesn't act like he has money though. His kids are cool but they kind of think they just have an average amount of money and I think it's a lot.

I don't get to see them nearly often enough. They've had a horribly rough year, so I'm going to do what I can to be cheerful and supportive.

It'll be awesome to visit people I love. It's odd that I've lived in NYC for 10 years now and don't know many people here. I have to go away to see people.

You're awesome. I need that hug today. :)

I've been trying to figure out why I'm so stressed out today and it just hit me. I've been blocking out the stress of a death in a friend's family.

Her mom died a few days ago and I've been on the phone with her letter her talk. Yet, I thought it was just work that's stressing me out. It's weird how we think about things.

We all have weeks were everything piles on. It's all building up and it's coming to a head today. My birthday was kind of cool, so that held things off for a while. But now it's all back with a vengeance.

To quote a professor from back in College, "There's no such thing as Gravity. The world just sucks."

To which I usually replay, "If it sucked, it would feel good. It bites."

Just a crappy day at work and since there's only one more of those left, that's a bit of a bummer too. Not to worry, I'm a contractor and finding jobs quickly is becoming more of a specialty than the actual work I do. :)

I'm home now with the dog (hubby's in school after a full day of work). It's 65 degrees and sunny and the bleeding hearts have just started to bloom. I'm thinking a nice Bordeaux, some crusty bread and a chunk of aged cheddar on the back porch is in order. :)

Thanks for the hugs. Hope you have a wonderful night.

71. The funny thing is I do spastic (and accidentally)
I can do martial arts stuff and I have really good balance. I can stand in tree pose seemingly forever and I can easily walk in stilettos after 4 or 5 glasses of wine (learned at my mom's wedding). I once climbed a 20' rock wall unaided while on mushrooms. Despite this...

I walk into things. I just don't notice it or something. I'll zone out and walk into something. Oddly enough, I generally walk into something on my left side, even though I have perfect vision in both eyes. I used to get made fun of at the health food store because there was this one corner that I managed to walk into regularly, even though I worked there for 3.5 years.

76. I noticed that the way you walk
you have very good control over your balance. You aren't jerky or wobbly like many people. Having no balance myself, I sometimes notice these things in other people. (I especially tend to notice this when I see people walk up or down stairs.)

No amount of grace makes up for being absent minded though. :)

91. I clean up amazingly well.
Edited on Thu May-04-06 07:53 PM by haruka3_2000
Everyone was figuring I'd show up in a pants suit, but I showed up in a tight black dress and stilettos. There are pictures but I don't feel like whipping out the scanner.

When I do dress up, it's fun because I get to shock people.

Edited to add: On the opposite side, I can also do drag really well.

79. I do get a weekend this weekend.
I'll be spending the weekend with an elderly aunt and uncle who I love very much but rarely get to see. It won't be very exciting, or relaxing, but I'll still enjoy being there immensely.

You're right that this too shall pass. I've told myself that several times today. Always a good thing to remember.

How are you doing? Was the trip home pleasant and uneventful?

82. Have a gratifying time with your aunt and uncle.
That sounds like it will be some hours well spent.

I'm pretty good, thanks for asking.

As I was telling somebody else, it has taken most of the week to dig out from under that data wreck that happened last week, but I think everything is pretty well repaired and no significant damage was done. We isolated and neutralized the source of the problem. Next problem, please.

The trip home was okay. I read most of that Jason Leopold memoir News Junkie, which is a ripping yarn, slept a bit, and got greeted at the airport and immediately taken out for food and ale.

It's fun to be home. But it was fun to hang with you and the crew. Glad I had the chance. I think I'll be back next year for that conference. I'll call ahead so you can organize a march.

80. Hi Catchawave!

I'm so glad that your t-shirt idea went over so well. It was an awesome idea.

I wish I had a DU t-shirt to bring last weekend. You inspired the idea, but I couldn't get a shirt in time. It would have been cool to have us all sign it. That would have been an awesome memento.

How are you?
