Father Pushes Past Cop To Aid Injured Daughter - Charged With Felony
<snip>

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. -- A panicked father who pushed past rescue workers to get to his injured daughter at the scene of a car crash in New Port Richey now faces felony charges.

Karl Swanson says he got a call from his daughter's cell phone late Tuesday: "Listen," the caller said, "your daughter's been in a terrible accident. She's in critical condition. It doesn't look good."

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say the 48-year-old anesthesiologist drove into the accident scene, narrowly missing an emergency helicopter, then pushed past a trooper and a paramedic to get to his 18-year-old daughter's side.

Swanson was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and battery on an emergency medical care provider. He is free on bond.

Trooper Larry Coggins says Swanson made a serious and stressful situation worse.

Swanson's daughter, Krystyna, remains in serious condition at a hospital.

The father is defending his response to the crash.

1. The cops really need to cut the poor guy a break.
He was concerned with his daughter. If none of the cops was injured why don't they just go catch some bad guys and leave this guy alone.

2. Must be more to the story
Parents don't normally get past either a cop or a medic at this type of incident. And we don't know how he got thru the roadblock protecting the Landing Zone either. So getting thru all of them is quite unusual.

4. This will SO get tossed in court
(assuming there's not more to the story, that is)

Wasting time and money, and making $$ for the lawyer he'll have to hire.

Sheesh.
