At a sho-chu bar in Kyoto. And I had the incredible pleasure of talking politics with a young gentleman for a couple hours, who had great things to say about America's potential (though rightfully condemning Shrubbie McFuckstick) to do good for the world, and America as the true hope of the world, if we don't fuck it up. A simply wonderful conversation! I rarely get to speak with Japanese people who aren't Christian theologians, so this was, in many ways, my first "real" Japanese experience - and I'm glad it was with a Shrubbie hater!

Japan is also undergoing it's own "patriot act" process here, of wanting to limit constitutional rights, free speech, and also to rewrite the constitution so that Japan can declare war and instate a draft. Scary shit.

But to top it all off - I ate whale bacon!

Eating the fatty tissues of an oceangoing predator is pretty high on the list of really dumb things to do to your body. There's a whole shitload of mercury, pcbs and god knows what else that collects in whales, to the point where thier bodies are generally the most polluted thing in the waters they navigate.
