May 4, 1970.
How many Lounge Lizards know the significance of that date?

Hint: I'm in the State where the event happened. It's mentioned
in my "vibes" thread.

My brother was in VietNam. So my Dem Mom was pulled in
two directions, not unlike troop's Mom's today.

4. I'm in Portsmouth, OH tonight
Jean Schmidt's district. I'm getting lots of positive
feedback from my DU sticker, and seeing VERY few yard
signs for that, uh, no, I won't say it.

7. From what I see, admittedly from a limited perspective..
She's toast. Even the neocons are sick of her, especially
after she called Murtha a coward.

But of course, I've read about it many times.

14. My first real political memory was the resignation of Nixon.
I was 8 then, and I knew that this was something very, very big. I also knew that my dad did not like President Nixon very much.

10. The four students killed would be in their 60's now
Damn, you're still a spring chicken. I was 14
and just starting my political education. The Murders,
plus a very good civics teacher, made me a life-long
liberal.

12. I remember it very well.
I was in my early teens. There was a horror that we all felt--could this really be happening in our own country? Nixon is gunning us down because we're daring to exercise our First Amendment rights.

We all lost a lot of innocence that day.

Looks like we're about the same age.
But I grew up in Alabama-helluva State
to produce a flaming liberal.

26. I was home sick that day.....
When the news came over the TV that the kids had been shot, my dad says "they shoulda killed them all..."

It was at that moment that I became a liberal for life...

I was only 12 and yet I understood howbad that sounded, how awful the shootings were and how divided the country was....

My dad came around later but we had some shaky years.....
