Age of Empires 3 only supports XP. Fine, whatever, thinks I. No big deal. It'll run on 2k.

Nope. It does a version check on install, and then REFUSES to install if you aren't running XP. So, figure out a work around, and badda bing, the game works.

Now, I've read some people defending Microsoft's position on this, saying that it would cost more to test it on 2k and provide support, especially since not many people run 2k, and those that do probably don't game much.

But here's the thing. When I run the game, after busting chops to get it installed, it gives me a little warning when I start it up saying my video card is below recommended levels, and the game might have unsupported issues as a result. So, WHY couldn't microsoft just put in such a disclaimer for 2k?

No extra testing, no extra training. Just say "Look, you wanna run it on 2k? Fine. But don't whine to us if it fucks up".

There is NO REASON it should not install on 2k. 2k is not an ancient outdated OS. And microsoft ADDED GAMES SUPPORT to 2k.

Cash. Grab. Pure and fucking simple. Especially since you can't upgrade from 2k to XP Home. Those assholes.
