There is nothing quite like Little League |
|
I am running our minor league (ages 6-9) this year and am assistant coaching my kids' team. So far, we are 0-5 but making improvement every game. Our infield is BY FAR the best in the league. We just need pitching and two more kids hitting the ball.
Game 1: Lost 16-8, 15 errors Game 2: Lost 4-3 in the 6th after having a 3-0 lead, 8 errors Game 3: Lost 8-7 in the 6th after having a 5-1 lead, 3 errors Game 4: Lost 16-14 in the 6th after having an 8-3 lead, 3 errors Game 5: Lost 3-2 in extra innings, no errors, left bases loaded twice. One hit away from the top of the order.
Last night's game was a thing of beauty. My oldest plays 3rd and pitches, and my youngest plays first. We had a 7 year old teammate make an unbelievable catch in deep right-center to rob the other team of an in-the-park homer, which is unheard of in our league. We had another throw the ball from right to second, and the second baseman fired to third, just missing a tag out on a triple. My oldest had two catches, one at third, one at the mound, and struck out 6. My youngest had two solo outs at first, and had no errors.
There is nothing like a good evening up at the local ball field.

We had a lot of fun when our son was in Little League. It's really gratifying when you see the kids improving, working together, AND (most importantly) having a good time.

in the outfield and robbed the opposition's best hitter of an in-the-park homer. The entire bench was chanting "Brad-ley! Brad-ley! Brad-ley!" when they came in from the field.
The entire board was saying our game last night was the best game of the season so far, Minor or Little League. It was nice to hear we have the best fielding team too. Shame we couldn't get one or two more hits...

2. My son is in his last year of senior league and I will be sad |
|
when it ends. I'm hoping he gets a growth spurt this summer so he can play ball for the HS next year (and drops lacrosse). My daughter is 16 and this is the first year she hasn't played since she was 5, it makes me so sad, it really feels like a major part of her life and our life together has passed.:(
Enjoy it while you can! I know we did.

5. I coached my boy's LL teams for 7 years. |
|
And although it took up my entire weekends and 3 weekdays/PM's, it was a wonderul experience. Teaching kids to play baseball takes patience an sacrifice but I wouldnt trade those days for anything.
The kids were great but the parents were much to contend with. Often taking the game too seriously and removing the "fun' from the game.
