Mother's Day gift ideas?
I'm blank. I'm sick of getting candy. And I have a lot of stuff to buy. My wife, my mother, my grandmother.

Any ideas at all? From anyone? Help me out!

1. Spa visits!
What woman doesn't love a facial, foot rub, manicure, or pedicure!

You could always enlist some female help and make or buy "spa baskets" full of lovely smelly stuff as a less pricey alternative.

10. Yep
My daughter just gave me one early: full manicure and pedicure. I'd never buy that stuff for myself!

2. weekend getaways
Edited on Sat May-06-06 12:09 AM by Scooter24
This year I'm sending my mother and her friend from college on a weekend cruise. They rarely get to spend time together (both are surgeons and live on opposite coasts), and since both are such awesome mothers, I figured this time alone together is well deserved.

It doesn't have to be expensive. It can be as simple as a 2-night stay in a nice hotel away from home.

If she enjoys musicals, maybe a pair of tickets to see Hairspray or Wicked? Or maybe a nice evening at the Symphony and dinner? Rent a limo for the evening so she and her girlfriend's can go drinking and dancing? Endless opportunities :)

3. Gas
Seriously I'm giving my elderly aunt a gas card. These gas prices are hurting her as she is on a rather low fixed income. Plus a gift certificate to her favorite store.

4. "in the name of" gift ideas
There are many, but two that come to mind are:

A donation to CodePink for the ads they'll run in Iraqi newspapers on Mother's Day.
https://secure.democracyinaction.org/dia/organizations/codepink/shop/custom.jsp?donate_page_KEY=1479

Or organic roses to the mother's of the fallen from Working for Change
http://www.workingforchange.com/Order/index.cfm?OrderFormID=8
(no specific way to do this "in the name of" but I've made donations like this in the past and inventer my own "certificate")

6. Take the children far, far away.
I love my kid absolutely, but I would love it if we could have "mother's day" time, lunch or something, and then enjoy an entire evening by myself.

Also, for single moms, money. :silly:

7. Keep 'em coming
These are all good, but please, keep the ideas coming...I know I'm not the only dope on the board who's stuck for ideas. They don't want flowers, they don't want candy....

8. spend the day with her...
and bring her flowers...
I lost my mom 2 days after Mothers Day last year...you never know when it's your last to be with her...
sure better'n any crapola candy or junk...
my mom always said 'bring flowers for me when I can enjoy them, not decorate the grave when I'm gone'

9. Can't go wrong with a spa day
The first time I got my mother one, she just didn't like the idea. Kinda uncomfortable with it. Now it's birthday, Christmas, whatever--she wants a spa day.

13. Clean her house for her
Do yard work, clean up everything, wash her car, do all the things she did for you when you were growing up, cleaning up after you.

Vacuum.

Grocery shop.

Cook dinner for her.

These are the things that matter. Screw flowers and strawberries.

Clean. Help. Talk. Be there, in every sense of "be there."

That's all a Mom wants, really.

:hi:

it may not be romantic but, I have been buying my Mom's membership to AAA for the last several years and we take her out to lunch that day. I also send her a card in the mail. Sometimes I buy something else like a plant or a windchime. She has enough bric-a-brac so I get her something for her yard or porch. She has a wrap around porch so I have options there.
