1. Odd there wasn't just "Christian" as an option
That's what I'd call myself.:)

3. I thought that too.
I'm more than happy to vote Catholic (it is more accurate in the sense of more precise) - but there's a heck of a lot of protestants out there.

8. at first that was how I was going to list it
Catholic and Protestant but as I got to the end I realized that I was running out of options so I dropped the protestant and forgot to change the Catholic...and literally you are right Catholic does cover it all. One more reason why I hate to discuss this topic...semantics just seem to get in the way

is it true that we are "asleep"? Which is the exact opposite of what a Deist thinks, as they consider God to be the one "sleeping"

40. Not so much asleep
we listen to our ego which is not our true self - fear and guilt based emotions are of the ego, while spirit is love, and that the ego is not real, so neither is fear. so in that way, most of us are asleep to our real selves.

7. Atheist
I always felt crazy when I was trying to force religion and spirituality into my life.

Giving it all up two decades ago was when I finally achieved the "zen" peace I'd been searching for!

I feel more in-harmony with my world as an atheist than I ever did as a "believer/spiritual seeker".

89. I understood your reasoning.

Let me explain why I feel that I am not a Pagan. I do not pray to or worship gods and goddesses, nor do I practice any rituals. I believe in doing the best for all concerned in a gentle manner, always with as much love as possible. The Pagans I've known were wonderful people and I've enjoyed dancing in the moonlight with them. :) I learned a great deal about wild-crafting from them and have been entertained by watching demonstrations of holding fire in the palm of your hand. But I will not say "Thou Art God or Thou Are Goddess" to another.

20. Agnostic in name, but.....
I'm a crazy-quilt mix of different spiritual beliefs. I wholly believe in karma, but not necessarily samsara (even though I like the "second chance" option). I try to live by The Law of Ethical Reciprocity (read "the golden rule"). And I also have some gut-feeling animism working in that I feel nature collectively has a consciousness, though not in a way we can presently conceive of, or measure.

32. Funny.
Last night at this big fancy company dinner, with everyone seated around a long, rectangular table, the subject of atheists somehow came up in the general conversation.

One of the company's owners excitedly and loudly proclaimed to all, "swag's an atheist!"

I just smiled really big and said, "That's right. I am."

39. I don't really believe that there's a spiritual realm separate this one.
I don't believe in gods be they singular or plural, male or female. I feel like there's so much real amazing stuff in the world that focusing on dreams and unevidenced assertions of how it all works is to cheat one's self. I believe one can be an ethical person without external sources telling them how to be one or why they must.

50. One could say that.
I really don't like to let religion define how I see the world. Just something I was thinking about. I may be godless, but I no more define myself that way than by being meatless or non-childfree. I prefer a positive statement about what I am to a statement of what I am not.

I know what I know if you know what I mean

Philosophy, is the talk on a cereal box
Religion, is a smile on a dog
I'm not aware of too many things
i know what I know if you know what I mean

Chuck me in the shallow water
Before I get too deep

What I am is what I am are you what you are or what
What I am is what I am are you what you are or what

Oh I'm not aware of too many things
I know what I know if you know what I mean

Philosophy, is a walk on the slippery rocks
Religion, is a light in the fog
I'm not aware of too many things
I know what I know if you know what I mean
Do do ya

Chuck me in the shallow water
Before I get too deep
Chuck me in the shallow water
Before I get too deep

What I am is what I am are you what you are or what
What I am is what I am are you what you are or what
What I am is what I am are you what you are or what you are
What I am is what I am are you what you are or what

Da da da da
I say I say I say I do hey hey hey hey hey hey

Chuck me in the shallow water
Before I get too deep
Chuck me in the shallow water
Before I get too deep

Chuck me in the shallow water before I get too deep
Chuck me in the shallow water before I get too deep
Chuck me in the shallow water before I get too deep

Don't let me get too deep
Don't let me get too deep
Don't let me get too deep
Don't let me get too deep

What I am is what I am are you what you are or what

But that doesn't mean anything because Jews have their degree of spirituality from the athiest to the ultra-religious. I'm somewhere in the middle where I believe in a personal God and from time to time I question my belief.

109. Agnostic
Even though I don't really believe in any deity--doesn't make sense to me. I do make up my own meditations and little rituals because spirituality--which I define as a sense of cosmic connectedness and awareness of inner self-- doesn't need to be tied to religion. In fact physics is more spiritual to me than most religions.

I like the Hindu Goddess Kali though. If I was going to have one, It would be her.

(the 'whatever floats your boat' religion); and quite a mishmash of New Age/Pagan/with a dash of Buddhist.

If I see something I like, I try to incorporate it, basically.

Edited on Sun May-07-06 01:35 AM by Maat
I'm a Religious Scientist (not Scientology, not Christian Science, www.rsintl.org ). We are also 'whatever-floats-your-boat-ers.' Thus, we honor all spiritual paths (including lack thereof). We are encouraged to explore all spiritually-related ideas, and often have different traditions expressed during our services, like the UU-ers. Our principles were derived from everything from Hindu teachings to Emerson's philosophies. Beloved Husband is a Pastafarian.

Edited on Sun May-07-06 08:37 AM by Seabiscuit
I have no interest in or need for organized religions, which IMOH have caused far more harm than good. But I do believe in a creator. Love, children, science and the history of not only the world, but the universe are my spiritual inspirations, and are the basis of my morality.

I can find value in the works of Jesus, Da Vinci, Shakespeare, Bach and Einstein without feeling the slightest urge to see any of them as god.
