Hussein Court Shocked By Ironclad Alibi
Edited on Sat May-06-06 03:48 PM by welshTerrier2

May 3, 2006 | Issue 42•18

BAGHDAD—Defense attorneys for Saddam Hussein claimed Monday the former dictator could not have signed a 1984 order to kill 148 Shiites because he was visiting friends in Missouri at the time.

Iraqi Special Tribunal Judge Rauf Rashid Abd al-Rahman said the state "has no case" against Hussein after viewing security-camera footage of the 69-year-old buying cigarettes and candy at a St. Louis-area 7-Eleven. "The date is clearly visible in the lower-left corner, and he's purchasing what is known to be his favorite flavor of beef jerky."

The prosecution was also stung last month by evidence that the 1988 gas attack on Kurdish civilians coincided with Hussein's two-week Jeopardy! appearance.

3. He could have given the order prior to his trip - I don't automatically...
....think Hussein has been completely cleared of all wrong doing as yet. I'm not saying Hussein did everything he's been accused of - his son's were no good guys either - but it's obvious he knew full well what was going on and when.

5. well, maybe ...
Edited on Sat May-06-06 04:17 PM by welshTerrier2
but don't you think if you were going to appear on Jeopardy, you'd be mostly focused on memorizing as many facts as possible?

i just can't imagine taking time out to give orders like that while he was under so much pressure ...

8. Whatever, but even Darth Stupidass manages to issue his fair share........
Edited on Sat May-06-06 04:41 PM by Minnesota Libra
...of orders whether he's on site or not. And whether Darth Dumbass is there or not, or whether he actually issues the order or not, he's still responsible for what goes on. Same with Hussein.:eyes:

edited to add: Keep in mind that Saddam also employed look-alike doubles who traveled the country in his name. Too bad video can't emit DNA, that would convince me.

9. you just can't argue with a 7-11 in-store video ...
Edited on Sat May-06-06 04:26 PM by welshTerrier2
he's got a perfect alibi ... and even if the store tape was doctored, the whole country saw him on Jeopardy ...

who will ever forget this memorable exchange between Hussein and Alex Trebek:

Hussein: I'll take WMD for $500, Alex ...

Trebek: this substance, often illegally obtained in Niger, is commonly used in the production of WMD.

Hussein: what is beef jerky?

Trebek: that's correct ... Saddam, you are our brand new Jeopardy champion!!
