router hell
Can anyone help me or point me to an online resource that might be able to help?

I've been trying off and on for many months to be able hook up two computers (my own desktop and my work laptop) at the same time to my cable modem through a Linksys router. I can usually get my own desktop to work, sort of - it runs pretty slow loading web pages. Just loading the DU greatest page can take a full minute. When the router is taken out (desktop connected directly to the modem), web pages always load in seconds - and usually in less than a second.

Connecting my work laptop through the Linksys router has never worked: "Access Denied"

I did find this hint:
1. Open up Internet Explorer, type in xxx.xxx.1.1 in the address field to get into the setup GUI
2. In the Login Popup Box, enter User name 'xxx' lower case, and Password 'xxx' lower case
3. Click on the Advanced tab
4. In the Filter Page section Enable PPTP Pass Through

But when I did this I found that "Enable PPTP Pass Through" was already enabled.

Help! x(

1. Why do you need a username and password for a cable modem?
A router shouldn't slow down a connection that much, are you sure you have all the settings right?

For the work laptop, you probably need to change your settings to Auto detect DNS and IP, make sure you have no proxies set

2. Your cable modem supplier (or cable service provider)
should be able to give you a hand with getting it configured. Give them a call.

(What OS are you using, because I've never seen anything that looks like your graphic and I've got 3 desktops and 3 laptops running through the same modem on a Linsys router with no problems at all...except for one where I had to disable the network bridge.)
