Good Tuesday Morning, Crew!

:donut::hi:
And welcome to the Tuesday edition of the Early Morning Crew thread! :bounce: I hope you had a good day yesterday! It was a long day for me. We were really slow at the store and all the tasks I assigned got done in the morning hours. So it was a rather long day. But...we're past the dreaded Monday now and the rest of the week is going to be great! :woohoo:

We had a huge thunderstorm come through Tallahassee yesterday evening just as I was on my way home from work, and a lot of the stop lights got knocked out. You should have seen all the "near misses" in the middle of the intersections as people tried to go when it wasn't their turn! I tell ya, some people should have to take a driving test every single year before they can get their license renewed, they are so dumb! Of course, the police were nowhere to be found. We're supposed to have some strong storms again today, and then only a small chance of showers the rest of the week (it's the rainy season, dont'cha know.)

I'm going to go see a couple of houses this morning before I go to work, so I'll have some pictures for you tomorrow! :bounce: We were going to go last night, but the weather didn't cooperate, so we changed to today! I can't wait to go see them! :woohopo:

It's time now to get this day started! So, let's get it on! :bounce: :woohoo:

9. Had to take Baby kitty to the vet.
Edited on Tue May-09-06 04:51 AM by Hissyspit
Something was wrong with her eye and I thought it might have been scratched in a cat fight. The vet said it wasn't but I have my doubts; she needed to go in anyway so we could get antibiotics. She only has three legs, you know.

Then I had to teach the night classes - long night, but I am giving them (and me) Wednesday off. All the grading is done now and it was rough, but I got them done.

Today: Take the car in for regularly scheduled maintenance.

25. Don't you hate scares like that?
My cat has become somewhat "un-litterbox" trained. He'll urinate inside the box, but would do his number 2 business right in front of it on the floor. x( My first thought was a urinary tract infection, but the vet says no. She thought it was an aversion to it he'd built up and suggested we try a different litter. We did that, and he seems to be going in it fine now, thank all the gods. Sounds like you had a long day too. I thought it would never end.

52. Here's my latest post this morning. It is music related, so I thought you
would be interested to take a look at the controversy:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=1137180&mesg_id=1137180

Cats do not do things just to annoy you, they are trying to tell you something. Some people just don't get that.

Like I said, Baby really needed to go in no matter what, so that we could get antibiotics and anti-inflammation stuff, whatever happened, but she was really scared, trembling like vibrating bed all the time we were there.

I'll go back and read it through completely. I knew Bandit was trying to tell us something, that's why we took him. He's gained three pounds (to 17 total) I found out. He's a big cat. He doesn't tremble, but he surely doesn't like the people doing anything to him. He hisses like crazy!

18. If two cars approach a four-way intersection at the same time, whoever...
is on the RIGHT has the right-of-way. If both cars are going straight through the intersection without turning, there shouldn't be a problem, but if one of the cars is making a right or left turn, that car must yield right-of-way to the car that's going straight. SIMPLE ENOUGH, RIGHT, YOU WOULD THINK?

If both cars want to turn onto the same road, the car that's making a right turn has the right of way.

When four cars all arrive at the same time at an intersection (which shouldn't happen because someone should have the sense to see it coming and speed up or slow down), it gets tricky.

At least that's all how it works here in North Carolina.

71. I get people like that all the time.
We sell furniture and I have people come in and are looking at one particular piece, and I go over to help them...one of the first questions I ask them is how much space they have and they look at me with wide, saucer eyes and have no idea because they didn't measure it before coming into the store to buy. Then, they have to go back home to make sure they have room enough to place it there. :eyes::silly:

This lady yesterday, first she said she wanted to be a member of our institution then she started to talking about theatre and France and I don't know what else. Oh yes, that she was a poet herself (I don't want to know what she writes). Then she started to look in some of the old books that lay around here waiting to get cataloged and stated she also buys old books from second hand shops and that she read this and this author, repeating herself constantly. In the end I told her if she is more into theatre then she is wrong here. This is a literature institution.

ARGH!!!!

I'm taking a few days off from it, and then I'll review it one more time (no more revisions) and start marketing it around, so for all intents and purposes, it's done.

High school teachers seem to want to focus on the creativity part of writing, which is important too, but then you have these kids in college who barely know how to form a proper sentence. It's sad when I write a terrible paper and teachers are still surprised at the lack of grammar mistakes. x(

44. Good morning Clint.
:hi:

I love thunderstorms I have to admit - I open all of the windows and play Beethoven loudly (about the only time that I do play his music).

You need to have roundabouts rather than traffic lights then - they work well over here (and across Europe) - but I suppose that they're just not the American way.

I'm in a slightly modern mood for music - Carmina Burana by Carl Orff (1930s Germany composer).

:P

It's one of the first things folk are taught when learning to drive - there are so many of them over here. My former town (Aylesbury) only had 1 set of traffic lights for controlling traffic flow (there were others which were for pedestrian crossings), all of the other traffic flow was controlled by roundabouts - this is a town with about 60,000 residents.

Then they made one at a five way intersection close to my school and I had to learn how to use it in a hurry. The people in that thing are dangerous, though. :scared:

75. I thought you didn't have them
most Americans think the idea is silly. Generally they work quite well, and I can't think of a better way of joining four (or more) roads together. But it does depend on everybody doing what they should, which is giving way to those coming from the right (left, in your case), and giving the proper indication as to which exit you are going to take. Mostly people here do get it right.

Where I live there are a few mini-roundabouts where we frequently get deadlocked; three cars all turn up exactly at the same time, and no-one knows who has right of way!

I use it nearly every day. It's only everyone else flying out in front of me without warning that makes it bad.

How do you decide who has the right of way on a roundabout when everyone comes at once? So much easier to figure that out at a stop sign. :D

152. Yes, we did.
When we got home, we watched half of The Marriage of Figaro ... we have a really good version of it. But I couldn't stay awake, so we'll finish it tonight.

I'm glad your mood is done ... it's good to be yourself. :D

I have to watch the time -- going to the chiropractor this morning. I hope it's the last time. I ADORE him, but things are too busy for me to have to drive around town to see him. And my back is a lot better now. The moving company is delivering more boxes today, so Mom and I will have another day of packing to do when I get home. :D

114. Good Morning, Miss Airmens!
:hi::hug::loveya:
You know...I'm not sure any place is better than any other. The drivers up here in Tallahassee are bad, Missouri drivers are awful, Boston is crazy, San Francisco is ridiculous, even Rome, Italy drivers have lost their sanity.

I hope the houses are great too! I can't wait to see them!

I thought Dell was one of the good ones! I'm sorry they are screwing you out of the warranty. x( That sucks. I'm glad you told me though, because I was thinking of getting one for my next computer.

I've never been to a Melting Pot, but I've heard they are good! I'm happy to hear they treated you right!

128. I guess you're right.
But the requirements are different in all the states and some of them actually make you PROVE that you know the rules.

Dell WAS one of the good ones. Something happened between the time I bought my PC in 2000 and my laptop in 2003. The laptop was a problem right out of the box and I was on the phone with them every day for an entire month trying to get it to work. They didn't even load up the software I bought, so I had to do all that. And something was messed up with it so it wouldn't connect to the internet. Finally, someone harleydad works with figured out that a dll had to be unregistered and re-registered. That fixed it. Dell was useless. I came very close to sending it back. The wireless card that came with it never worked, so I had to get a new one. They told me to keep the broken one. Then, a few weeks later, they sent me a bill! x( So I had to argue with them about that. Now I have a 2 1/2 year old $4000 laptop that overheats and they're no help at all. Apparently, other people are having trouble with their service b/c Consumer Reports are rating them lower all the time. My sister just got a new laptop and it was the same thing -- didn't run out of the box and she had to spend hours on the phone. My kids had better luck with cheap laptops they bought from Best Buy. So what if they only run for a few years -- is Dell any better for all that money? Mine sure isn't!

You MUST go to a Melting Pot near you. It's a great experience! It takes about 2 hours to get through your meal and it's great fun. It's pretty expensive, so we saved it for a special occasion. The service is great, too. :loveya:

Weren't you going to post some pics yesterday? Did I miss them?

139. I'm sorry to hear about Dell.
I hate it when one of the good ones goes to hells in a handbasket. x( I have a friend whose husband runs the Melting Pot here in Tallahassee, so I could go anytime I want...I just haven't so far. Haven't posted any pictures yet...the weather has been too bad to go see any. x( One of them is already under contract, one is in a flood plain (no thank you!) and one is an as-is sale that I'm not sure I want to get into.

147. Yes, it's sad.
But I'm going to find the parts somewhere and put them in myself. They told me it's "not customer-serviceable" ... but SOMEONE has to take it apart -- might as well be harleydad and me.

Well, the houses don't sound like anything you want, especially the as-is one. My insurance agent says most of FL is in a flood plain. And your mortgage company will probably require flood insurance anyway. It's no fun house-hunting in the rain and I'm glad we had good weather for our lookers. We have shiny white tiles ... can you imagine wet shoes on it? x(

160. And how do you tell the lookers and their realtors
"Be careful, the floor is REALLY slippery when it's wet." There goes the sale! x(

Originally, we left the house, cats and all. And we would drive around or go to the park. But we got some no-shows first off and it was annoying b/c the cats don't do well in the car. Turns out that we had traumatized them for nothing. I was afraid to leave the cats in the house alone b/c some people just don't understand about closing the doors. It would have been terrible to come home and find that one had gotten out.

So our realtor told us to stick around, just don't follow them into the house and try to sell it. We stayed out on the patio or walked around in the yard. I was a little nervous about it b/c I read all the "how to sell a house" articles and they all said to leave. (They also said to paint the walls white, which isn't always good advice.) The nice thing was that no one was ever sure where the property ended (it's a huge lot) and we were there to tell them. The second time our buyer came, he ASKED us to walk around with him and tell him all the secrets about the house. So it's OK to do it at their invitation. Why do you ask? Did you meet some homeowners?

168. No, haven't met any yet...
I'm just not sure I'd feel comfortable going into someone's house with them there. I think I'd rather they were gone when I went in to look. If I'm interested in the place, I can meet them later...I just wouldn't want them following me around while I was checking out the place.

174. When we were looking down here,
we went into one house where they were watching TV in the living room. That was TOO creepy. But it didn't seem to bother people when we were out in the yard. It's just not possible for some people to leave. They shouldn't be in the house, though, and they DEFINITELY shouldn't follow you around. If they do, make sure your realtor mentions it with his feedback comments so their realtor can correct them.

I thought it would put people off having us here, but it didn't seem to. We had some stay in the house for 30 minutes! Sometimes they spoke to us when they came back out and sometimes they didn't. We took our cue from them.

It's a pretty big hit! :bounce:

When I was working, I started a Friday morning breakfast club. It started with about 4 people and grew to about 25. We met in a conference room and took turns bringing in the goodies. But some bitchy secretary didn't like it and she had us shut down. Shame -- we were from different departments and became friendly with each other. That made it a LOT easier when we needed some work to be done!

Agh! Dell!!! I'll never buy from them again either. When I first got this computer the letter e typed in as a q, so naturally I called technical support. At first they didn't believe me - sheesh. I ended up talking to EVERY single tech person (on all continents mind you). Won't bore you with the rest of the story, but no, my next computer will NOT be a Dell.

126. G'day Clint - hope you're well and not too soaked
you can send some of that rain down here - the dams that serve Brisbane are now less than one-third full, and there's nothing in sight.

The press here is going crazy over those two gold miners in Tasmania who were rescued this morning after two weeks trapped underground, in a space less than four feet high. It's truly a miracle and we've been hanging on tenterhooks since it was known they survived the quake that caused the mine collapse.

Best of luck with the house-hunting - like I've said before, I don't envy you two at all - but I sure hope you find what you like !!

You are in good spirits today! Yesterday went okay and today and tomorrow will too. I am not too concerned about Thursday and Friday once I get there. At least choir practice is not confrontational, usually, although there have been exceptions.

But I'm in the market to buy a digital camera for myself. I'm not in any hurry, but I want one that's a good fit for me. Still like my Canon (print) that's a few years old.

Thanks for any advice that you can send!

194. I am doing fine today
thanks for asking. I am just not in the mood to work right now. But since I am alone there is no chance for me to get off early.

197. Funny ~ I'm in the mood to go back to work ___for myself again.

But I think I'll just go shopping for new undies instead. :)

199. Not That Kind!
I bought a summer skirt that is very sheer. Now I need white panties to wear under it because  any color shows through.

208. Whatever strikes my fancy.

I have three beautiful silk nightgowns in that color. I've been known to wear them as a combination blouse/slip under a denim skirt.
