In praise of cocoa bean shell mulch.

1. Definitely better than that 4-day old anus smell of regular mulch.

3. Menards, here. Maybe Home Depot?
I like the apperance of it, too. It's dark and contrasts nicely with the plant foliage. I've used it the last two years and am presently waiting for it to go on sale, so I can pick up a few bags (it's not the cheapest stuff out there).

8. we had a problem for awhile
the exterminator guy recommended getting rid of the wood mulch and replacing it with the cocoa...which i was MORE than happy to do. found myself craving chocolate even more than usual though. :D

9. The only issue I had with it was that toward the end of the season,
it kept raining and some of the mulch got kind of mildewy. I think I should have turned it, a bit. Other that that, I've loved the stuff!

10. Seriously, I can't believe that
no one has posted the "WARNING!! Your pets can die from eating cocoa mulch!!" email yet.

(short answer: Yes, if they eat quite a bit of it, but there's been no actual reported cased of it happening. However, owners of puppies and small dogs should be extra-cautious. OTOH, Hershey's (!) says that 98% of all dogs won't eat it)
