make sure you get a letter from them. DO NOT under any circumstances log back in to AOL even if you are paying through the end of the month...just clicking on their icon will reinstate you as a customer. I have been gathering AOL cancelation horror stories to send to the NY attorney general so if you have a problem, let me know!

They work as cheap coasters, too. (I'm going on the Phish pic with this one.)

I had to endure a terribly abusive diatribe from an AOL 'account saver' to get my membership cancelled. But it was worth it and confirmed my thinking on why AOL is having a terrible time. I would not join AOL again even if they paid me monthly to do it.

call your credit card and put a hold on any payments to them beyond what you believe you should be paying. When I canceled, a month later AOL told me they never had me as a cancelaton and kept me on for another month. I called again, tried to cancel again, was told I called two days after my billing period and had to pay through the end of the month. I checked to see if it was canceled by logging on (thinking it would be "dead") only to be told by logging on again, I reinstated my membership! I called my credit card company and told them I was disputing the charges, they stopped paying and I never heard from AOL again.

20. I used to do credit card disputes. |
|
AOL almost never challenges a disputed charge, they just give you your money back.
So anybody who cancels AOL, keep an eye on your credit card statement and dispute the charge if they keep charging you after you cancel.

Find out when your billing date is and cancel a couple of days before. Call them at customer service. They will badger you, etc for about 20 minutes. Stand firm and get a cancelation number. Uninstall the software and never never click on any AOL icon on your computer. Good luck!

as well, for many reasons which I'm sure you're familiar with, and I just can't take it anymore, but how do I do that? I can't find a number or anything else to call.
