I've dated plenty of both types. My wife is definitely in category two, and I think she is gorgeous & sexy...
My ex-wife would be category one, though her weight fluctuated in a good 20-25 pound range, which is quite a lot considering she was a tad under 5'0". Her father used to joke, however, that they adopted her from Dolly Parton.
Both, however, are open-minded,have outgoing personalities and are intelligent, except in their choice of husband. I'd consider my wife to be exceptionally intelligent.

Attractive is more inside than outside.
Now if we're comparing two equally wonderful women, and it's just down to the physical...I'm not that much of a boob man, so I guess the second choice.

15. This is really disheartening for a skinny girl... |
|
I am at a healthy weight. I have a healthy BMI and a healthy body fat percentage. However, at this ideal weight and body fat percentage, I'm pretty skinny on top. I have to lift weights to avoid having chicken-leg arms. Unfortunately, even with muscles, I often appear very skinny from the hips up. Hearing things about "stick people" and "skinny is ugly" is hard.

Whatever their size. Whereever it may be. Some things are just genes and people come in such a variety of shapes and colors. It's beautiful. We shouldn't have to be like anything but ourselves. Ultimately, no matter how a person looks, you fall in love with their mind and their soul(if it's just about the T&A, you're shallow). Chemistry needs to be there, sure, but specific physical requirements in terms of who you will love is degrading.

I actually, in part, work with anorexic young women so I understand first hand. I'm talking about a woman who's thin and a normal weight range that is sick of society telling her that something is wrong with her because she's an A cup and not a D cup. Someone who's over 5 feet and 80 pounds with malnutrition and bradycardia is something else. Someone who's 400 pounds going into ketoacidosis is also something else. I'm talking the narowly defined crap society puts on women.

42. Here's what prompted the question... |
|
I was very overweight a year ago, and now am at a very healthy weight, and people are starting to suggest that I "work out" and "bulk up". Now, while I believe that push-ups and other light exercise are good, along with a little light weight training, I have ZERO interest in getting "buff". Everything I have read suggests that men who are very muscular and work out a lot have fairly high incidences of heart disease at an advanced age, and that it's thin people who show the best longevity, and that's what I'm aiming for. In Europe and Japan, it's still quite fashionable for men to be thin and not buff, so I was curious about women's preferences. I didn't want to be lopsided about it so I made a poll for men, too.

You're not skinny, at least not from what I've seen here. Your appearance seems healthy. On top of that, you are, (and I've copyrighted the term) what one might call "pause the DVD" hot.
With men, your "skinny" is "ripped" so, from now on, you, my dear, aren't skinny...you're ripped. You're at competition weight.
BMI is crap. Bodyfat percentage is less so. But who cares...those are just numbers. It's easier to just post a pic and let us make with the lust and the lavish.

36. That's always bothered me about DU |
|
I've posted about it here a number of times before: people putting down more slender people (actually, women...it's almost invariably women being put down, not surprisingly, though very often by other women) with the "get her a sandwich" kind of thing. The height of unpleasant irony comes when the person laying down the slam is one whose bodily proportions are several sizes more than generous, someone who should know just how it feels to be criticized or treated differently because of their physical habitus.
So it's verboten to make fun of overweight people but fine to poke fun at people who just cannot, for whatever reason, rise above a relatively low body weight? Why? Because the vast (no pun intended) majority of American adults are at least 30 lbs overweight? Is it a numbers game?
It's hypocrisy, no matter what else it is.
I hate it.
And you're a babe, at any weight or degree of rippitude, Mrs Is-Write...

just specifically responding to what Left Is Write posted, not to the original post. The bottom line for most respondents seems to be, anyway, that physical characteristics come in below other, perhaps less immediately tangible, personal attributes. Still, some of these kinds of threads here in the past have indicated that some people hold such arbitrary ideals as a particular eye or hair color above anything else...seems kind of weird to me, even without considering the objectification angle, but to each his or her own, I guess.

I never really considered that — at least, given it the consideration it's due.
I've used the term "stick chick" many times and posted the "Skinny girls are for wimps" smilie, because "solid" women are my preference. But as one who's had those "jokes" directed at him all his life, I should've been more sensitive.
I guess I thought (if I thought at all) that the whole "You can never be too rich or too thin" bit was empowering to slender women, and the "jokes" would just roll off them because, after all, they'd have the last laugh. Somehow, it never really occurred to me that women could be as sensitive as men about being thin.
I humbly apologize to any or all I may have offended.
Edit: LIW, for what it's worth, I've never considered you "too" anything. You transcend all that. And the same goes for a great many Women of DU.

I'm a hetero that's probably a 1-2 on the Kinsey Scale. I'm told by my SO (who's a man), "You're always attracted to women built like you." I'm very curvy (on top), not fat, not skinny, but in-between. I think if I were truly bi and interested in women for relationships on the same level as I am with men, it might be different. Don't know.

10. Natural inclination toward the first, but the truth is that it really |
|
doesn't matter, ultimately. Physicality -- any aspect of it -- may be an important factor in some forms of initial attraction, but not in all (actually, romances that start electronically, via Internet, at least before pictures are exchanged, are a classic modern example of that), and it's down below other, internal attributes on my list. If she happens to coincide in various ways to some 'type' that I find particularly attractive, overall or even in specific details, so much the better. But that'd just be a bonus, and one that I wouldn't miss were she diametrically opposite some archetype of feminine beauty that I tended to favor.

Big women just work better for me. "Relations" with a little skinny girl tend to be uncomfortable for both me and her. Lots of bones poking into each other. I get sort of a narcissitic thrill out of looking at really beautiful, skinny, flat-chested girls, but I know she isn't for me in the end.
I don't buy that the physical doesn't matter--if you physically can't have satisfying sex, you should really look elsewhere!

I've always evaluated my interest in women based on her in her entirety (as well as I know...which doesn't always prove to be the truth x(, but oh, well). Some physical features just work much better on some women than on others...depending on how she holds herself, etc. And of course personality and attitude play just as big a part as looks.

I'm attracted to personality, not body type. For a while I tended to date mostly tall women (including one six footer, which didn't look too great with me being five-seven). But now I don't have a "type" per se. If you're talking about pure physical attraction, I'd have to say, appallingly, that I'm attracted to the way a woman walks--the way she talks or carries herself--her gait. Again, nothing to do with physical being, everything to do with physical action.
Also, if she's drunk and passed out on my couch, I find that really Hawt.
