3. Is the GD Forum an appropriate place for this discussion, unless
you are discussing the 'tombstoning' of a DUer? Maybe the Lobby, or Philosophy/Religion?

16. Tombstoning in DU is very similar to an actual death
In order to be a member of this discussion forum, certain conditions need to exist. You need to register, follow the rules, and have access to the internet.

So while it may seem that you are in control of your destiny, your ability to partake in the discussions at DU, in reality there are many other interrelated factors that go in to your ability to post.

Other factors include -
The internet must be properly functioning.
Your ISP must be working correctly.
DU must be up and running. No bugs, no software glitches.
You must have a functioning PC.
Your communities electricity must be consistent and reliable.
And your lifeforce must be intact

Frankly, I think that impermanence is a justifiable topic for General Discussion, as it is the basis for all other topics of political conversation.

18. I have found that people cherish this discussion
I often have this exact discussion when I am getting to know an "At risk teenager" (at risk of going to jail, juvie, or a psych ward).

I would ask, "Hey. Have you ever thought of your own death?" They answer (usually 'whatever').
Then I ask, "What would be the best way to pass on?" They answer (old age, in their sleep, wealthy).
Then I would ask, "If you had to guess, how do you think that you will die?"

In my experience, teens enjoy thinking about "real life". I also found that the kids that were really fucked (the kids that were raped or abused, the kids that were in too deep with gangs) had thought of their demise in clear and actual terms ("I'll probably die in a fistfight with my Mom's boyfriend." "I'll probably die slinging rocks.").

7. as long as none of the following words appear in the news stories about it
I'll be content. the words are:

Ferrets.
Rabid.
Ravenous.
gruesome.
Refrigerator.
Chianti.

Actually, as long as those don't all end up in the same sentence, I'll be ok.

9. I want to die peacefully, in my sleep, like my father...
Not screaming and pleading like the passengers in his car.

(stolen, but not sure from whom.)

Edited on Mon May-15-06 04:41 PM by Droopy
My brakes will go out on my semi when I'm rolling up on a traffic jam with a bus load of kids at the end. I'll steer the truck off the road and into a forrest or a river.

17. The famous "Red Sovine" method?
These are my Two Immutable Rules of Dating. Never violate them and you will be happy.

Rule Number One: Never, never date a woman whose favorite singer is Red Sovine.

Rule Number Two: If you choose to violate Rule Number One, never call him a rapper.

14. The Aldous Huxley method sounds pretty good.
Edited on Mon May-15-06 04:52 PM by swag
Nearing death and unable to speak, he scribbled a note to his wife that said something along the lines of, "LSD, 100 µg, i.m." (versions vary).

She was able to see that his wish was fulfilled, and he died peacefully (?) the following morning, just blazing on acid.

I doubt I'll be so fortunate, but one can always hope.

19. I dunno how it will happen, but the tombstone will look like this:

Not photoshopped - that's my g-g-g-grandfather's actual tombstone. My DU name is taken from his father(my g-g-g-g-grandfather), Cooley Hurd, the Revolutionary War patriot.
