How many people know what State Chicago Is in?
I called about the Potato of the Month Club today and I asked the lady to mail me a Catalog and she asked me for my address and I figured that after I said Chicago that she would know where it was at. She then asked me what State Chicago was in.

That is the second time that has happened. One of the other times it was for Compaq Computers and they were answering the calls in India.

1. Probably just routine
99 times out of 100 they will ask the state - so it just becomes habit.

4. It wasn't habit
She didn't know because you could tell that she didn't know.

Are they teaching kids geography on computers these days?

2. It's in Illinois
But my best friend at one point didn't know that (earlier this year).

I then proceeded to ask him a bunch of cities for their states and congressional districts.

5. When I was little I didn't know
My mind could not make the connection between Chicago, Illinois the big bustling city, and Illinois flat-land farm-land south of Wisconsin. Thought maybe there were two Illinois.

8. She was on the East Coast
She wasn't a kid either but I didn't let on like I knew that she didn't know and I didn't act surprised.

Hey, I use to live in Buffalo Grove which is south of the WI borderline. It was so damn boring out there that you could actually hear the crickets chirping.

6. My Dad is in his 70's
He can still name all of the States, Cities, Capitols, Birds of the States, Flowers of each State, etc.

He use to play a game and make you name the damn capital of each State and it got on my nerves.

14. Once I just said "Minneapolis" when asked for my address
The person on the phone said "what state?" After I said "Minnesota" she got very huffy and said "You know there is a Minneapolis in Indiana." I sighed and said, "That would be Indianapolis"

(Actually, there is another Minneapolis, but I can't remember what state it is in Kansas? Nebraska?)
