1. This is my own contribution to the world opinion of Oprah

While the artist must stress that he isn't actually calling for the assasination of Oprah Winfrey, considering the world's current condition and the loss of so many innocents, he wouldn't really lose any sleep if it happened. The inscription on this bedpan reads:

"Although at first glance it seems as if Oprah Winfrey is quite the philanthropist, she promotes a lifestyle of constant and pointless suburban consumption, which when practiced by soccer moms en masse, leads to enormous gaps between the rich and poor, killing many. Oprah must die so that many more can live."

3. why thank you. Oprah blows
so much. The last time I saw Oprah it was about 300 soccer moms cheering one of her extravegant shopping mall trips like she was some sort of idolotrous deity.

I became so sick I drank bile from the liver of a hog dead for a week just to feel better. Then I created the Oprah Winfrey bedpan.

31. I used to subscribe to her magazine
it was one of the few I could have delivered overseas. After a few issues I was completely turned off. Consume consume consume. I hate that mentality that it's all about THINGS. And WTF - her things were way more expensive than most soccer moms could afford. Unrealistic. I know she does some good and has all the money to rightfully have the nicest of things - but so much? Come on.

10. She bugs the hell out of me. But her SCREAMING audience is worse.
God. Just shut them up! Constant shrieking. And they all appear to be drooling mouth breathers as well.

Oprah is a fabulously wealthy, pampered woman who has not even one little toe based in reality any longer.

I don't begrudge her her hundreds of millions of dollars, but I don't take a thing she says seriously.

12. Overall, I like her. I think she does many good things.
I'm not a fan of her shows, but I think that many of the causes she raises money or awareness for are good, and she contributes a lot of her own money toward worthy charitable causes.

13. I could care less about her and her opinions but...
...to give respect where it's due. She is a very successful person who has been around a long time and I think "Oprah" will still be a household name for even more years to come.

BTW - I met a lady who won one of the cars she gave away on her show one time. She had ten tickets to go to the show and only one friend went with her. She got a car too.

16. I respect her tremendously.
She knows her audience. She knows how much fluff she has to feed them to keep them tuned in for the serious stuff. Yeah - she is tedious sometimes. But damn if she doesn't get those "soccer moms" people seem to have contempt for to get riled up about things that do matter...like her broadcasts during the Katrina aftermath...her focus on new writers...the way she makes it clear that philanthropy should be a priority. I have respect for that. A lot of respect for that.

19. Well
I don't know. I give her credit for being successful, etc, but there's just something about her. She does good things, but I get this feeling that it's for the attentino, not for the deeds themselves. She gives someone a car, and people gush over her. "Wow, isn't Oprah great?"

I have no reason to feel this way, it's just the impression i get

27. Understandable that you might get that impression
Especially if you don't watch the show much. I avoid the fluff and celebrity guest shows but watch the other (more important shows, in my opinion, like about the Hurricane aftermath and how nothing has been done months later).

However, I do notice that whenever she does a show that follows up on money she and audience members have donated, she almost always says things like, "your money has made this happen" (i.e., giving credit to the audience members who donated rather than making it all about her own huge commitments of money, time, and energy).

Anyway, that's my two cents. :hi:

20. I like her sometimes, but not her worshippers
Oprah does some good shows-her coverage of the Katrina fallout was good. She did an excellent show recently on the self-image of girls. I would love to be on during one of her giveaways-she gives the best stuff away.

Oprah is very generous with her money, too.

23. See the poll put up several hours before yours
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x5156433

To summarize my viewpoint, Oprah gives a great deal of her time, energy, and money to educate people about issues most want to shut their eyes to. Her Angel Network does amazing charitable work and she personally donates TONS of money to help those less fortunate. She is a self-made black woman who has not forgotten to give back the money she has and I think she is rare. Most celebs look like they are hoarding their money (compared to what she does). And, by the way, she often does shows that highlight where the money she and her audience members have donated actually goes to - this way we see which companies are partnering with her with donations (like Lowe's and Target) and we see the final product. When she does those shows, she says "your money" or "your donations" went to build these homes, etc. She doesn't take full credit and never makes it all about her. She consistently thanks her audience members for their generosity (and we're talking average people like you and me who could donate a buck or two for a worthy cause). What is so intimidating about that?

Hate her if you like, but for those of you who find Walmart shoppers shameful, you should do a little research on the type of philanthropy this one woman organizes. She puts her money where her mouth is. Plain and simple. Talk about "buying blue." In her show on the months following Hurricane Katrina (where literally nothing had changed), she repeatedly said that she couldn't believe that we and our administration would allow this to happen in America.

So, for those of you who Oprah-bash because it makes you feel better, get over yourselves and practice what you preach (you so called progressive thinkers, you!). Here's my Colbert "wag of the finger" to you!

26. I didn't vote
I think she did great things initially but now she is so rich that she is way out of touch. That in itself is no crime but she is defensive about it, and pretends to still have street cred., which is crazy. I read somewhere that she takes her private jet from Chicago to LA to have her eyebrows done every couple of weeks, someone said somewhere that equals about $50k per eyebrow. I don't know if that is true or not, but it's just nuts.

29. I recognize she does a lot for charity and she has good intentions in
many of her programs but I also find her at times to be exceedingly self-righteous and annoying in in her role as a host. I accept that she does a lot of good in her role as a TV presenter and I do find some of her topics interesting but I can't stand to watch her quite a lot of the time. In fact I will not usually watch unless someone else in my family is watching her or if a topic on her program catches my eye when I am surfing channels
