An 11 year old(!!!) to be Britain's youngest mother.
WTF?!

A girl is to become Britain's youngest mother after becoming pregnant at 11.

The girl smokes 20 cigarettes a day despite being eight months' pregnant. She conceived aged 11 when she lost her virginity to a boy of 15 on a drunken night out with friends.

In the Darwinian scheme, it's not about living well, it's about multiplying. So far she has a head start. By the time she's 35 she could have many children

7. I worked in a home for pregnant teenagers.
The youngest we had was 11 when she delivered...10 when she was impregnated by her uncle. The family was so disfunctional that the child's mother told her she got that way from standing too close to a boy and the child didn't know any better until she got into the sexuality and birthing classes.

She was made to keep her baby. As a reminder of HER "sin". We couldn't do anything about it.

26. that is horrible!
one place I worked I had a pregnant 12 year old client... no one did anything about it or thought it was wrong, despite my complaints that AT LEAST someone should be arrested. It's a terrible cycle of poverty, ignorance and child abuse.

No one that young should be pregnant or have to raise a child.

were between 13 and 15, about 85% of those were impregnated incestuously. Seems like the younger they are when they get pregnant, the more likely it is that the father is a close relative.

18. You know what's really bizarre about this?
The fact that you're so surprised about this.

For all of human history up to about 150-200 years ago, girls got married off almost as soon as they started having periods. Heck, in some parts of the world, they still are. I'm not saying it's right, I just find it odd that you consider it such an aberration when it clearly is not (at least not when you consider all of history and all of the world).

51. i consider it an aberration
because a girl in her early teens doesn't know herself and should be allowed to stay a child for a few years. in some societies girls were married off young but life expectancy has risen in most countries. early marriage and childbearing are unecessary.
in fact its criminal.

54. It's a way of subjegating women
In many cases, it is very similiar to slavery in some cultures. The parents sell their daughter to a man.
It is also unhealthy for girls to have babies as soon as they are fertile. Maternal death rates are relatively high for girls under 15 or 16, especially in places without good medical care.

39. I am suprised that she is the youngest
A fair amount of girls are starting their periods at 9 or 10. Given the amount of girls this age being sexually abused by adults, you would think that there would have been a few 10 year olds by now.
I remember reading an article when I was in high school about a 7 year old in Toledo getting an abortion. It didn't say anything about anyone getting arrested for impregnating her. I think that someone should have been.

43. Not really
12 and a half is average. I think that starting anywhere from 9-15 is considered "normal" and there are girls that start out of that range. Girls are allegedly getting their periods younger these days, but my grandmother started when she was 9 and glad that all of her daughters matured a few years later than she had. I started at 11 and my sister started at 12. The age of first period is usually based on a combination of genetics and nutrition/body fat(heavier/more nourished=earlier first period).

44. My issues is with the immaturity from this young girl.
Historically, young women were often married off and bearing children before hitting 20 9as someone else posted above.) Eleven is still rather shocking, but what is now worrisome is the staggering immaturity expressed in this article by the young lady and the negligence by the mother.

The youngster, who lives near Edinburgh, says looking after her younger brothers has prepared her for motherhood.

But the girl admits she "panics and cries" when babies are unwell and does not feel able to bathe them.

The mother-to-be, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had unprotected sex with the teenage boy, who also cannot be identified, while drunk last August.

Wow. She is so prepared for motherhood. She panics and cried when other people's babies cry. What will she do when the fetus inside her becomes the baby in her arms? Will she panic and cry the first time this child runs a fever? Cries all night long? Dirties their diapers?

She told the Sun: "I didn't think I'd get pregnant because it was my first time. But I'm really excited and looking forward to being a mum.

"I can't wait to take the baby swimming and out for walks in the pram. I think I'll be able to cope as I've had lots of practice looking after my brothers.

"I know how to feed a baby its bottle and I can change nappies. But I panic and cry if they're sick and I don't like giving them a bath because I'm a bit frightened.

She can't wait to take the baby swimming... but she's afraid to give a baby a bath? But, she'll be able to cope because she has siblings. This is truly terrifying.

"It's good to know I'll have my mum here to help me if I need her."

Where was your mother before you got pregnant? That is when you could have used a mother. Now what this kid needs is a nanny because obviously her mother is oblivious.

"I was upset and so was my mum, especially as she'd just had my wee brother. We had a big argument and I ended up locking myself in my room and running away to a friend's.

How mature. You sure are ready to be raising another human being to be a productive member of society.

The girl, who has shoulder-length dark hair, began smoking at nine and started drinking tonic wine and vodka cocktails at ten. She claimed her cigarette habit was not harming the health of her unborn child.

She said: "I can give up smoking at any time, but I don't find it affects my pregnancy."

Mother. Paging mother. Where are you mother when you child is drinking, smoking and having sex with older boys?

That being said, I am glad to know that the mother is there for her daughter. It's clearly not the idea situation, but at least the girl doesn't have the heartache of being tossed out of her home by her own mother.

And now, exactly as I suspected...

The Scottish Conservatives has called for society and families to unite to change attitudes towards sex following the news.

Always expect a conservative to take one example of an unfortunate situation.and claim all of society is falling apart. Even after all I have posted above, you can't guarantee that this young girl won't mature and change and be a respectable parent. I have friends who were not much more than babies themselves when they started having kids and they are now fine parents. They were wise enough to ask for help and to seek assistance when they felt overwhelmed. perhaps this young lady will find being a mother is the one thing that changed her life for the best.
