1. She's getting scathing reviews. I would have been surprised.
I'm GLAD she wasn't nominated, of course. :-)

I've heard some great things about "The Drowsy Chaparone", one of the musicals nominated. Maybe if I get to New York this fall, it will still be running.

7. I have difficulty imagining her as an effective stage actress
She seems better suited to film. I think it's her voice that bothers me. It's not a terribly interesting voice...it lacks range and color.
Yet in film close-ups, she has a wonderfully expressive face, which makes up for what her voice lacks.

4. Thanks, LynneSin!
I didn't realize the nominations came out today.

After reading the New York Times reviews of the different shows, I'm not in the least surprised to read most of those names. The revivals of Sweeney Todd and The Pajama Game got fantastic reviews, as did Faith Healer (with Ralph Fiennes in a role once played by James Mason), The Lieutenant of Inishmore, and Awake and Sing.

And it's a proud day for the Irish and British! Look at those nominations! :bounce:

6. Haven't seen Fiennes yet (that's on June 2nd) but I really
enjoyed Nixon & Daly in "Rabbit Hole"...it wasn't a "Great" year...a solid, "Good" year, though.
It was good to see Clayburgh again, though.

8. How Cherry Jones missed a nom is a mystery
Watching those three actors (Ralph Fiennes,Cherry Jones, Ian McDiarmid) was like being in a master class on acting. Nixon and Daly were fabulous. I was sure that Daly was going to take everything in sight this award season, but I think this is her first nomination this seaso n

9. Jersey Boys
Last year at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade they featured a song from "Jersey Boys" which is about The Four Seasons. The guy singing was fantastic and it seemed like it would be a fun show too.

ITA that Julia Roberts being "snubbed" here is not a surprise. And anyway can you really be snubbed if you weren't expected to be nominated anyway?

10. I recently saw Sweeney and Jersey Boys....
Both are great, but how can the Tony voters choose between a Sweeney and a Frankie Valli

11. Of course the Daily News focused on Julia Roberts.
Yeah, the American Theater Guild hands out the names of a few dozen talented people who have done interesting things on and for the Broadway stage this year, and what does the Daily News focus on? :eyes:

Then again, I was expecting it. When Nicole Kidman was in The Blue Room (an adaptation of Schnitzler's Reigen, AKA La Ronde), she got front-page coverage on NOT getting nominated for her part. The gist of the story was that she had made the effort for nothing. :eyes:
